Job summary

Westside Recreation Centre is seeking an Early Recreation Program Lead to supervise and develop programs for children aged 0-6 and support child minding services, with duties in the Children and Youth Department.

The role combines hands-on instruction, staff supervision, event planning and administrative tasks, totaling 22.5 hours weekly, with weekend shifts and flexibility; start date October 2026.

Qualifications

• Current Alberta Approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17
• Minimum of 3 years of early learning and child care, recreation program or day camp leadership experience
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience required
• Post-secondary education in a related field
• High 5 is considered an asset
• NCCP considered an asset

Responsibilities

• Assist in program development and implementation of Early Recreational Programs, special Events and Summer Day Camps for children (ages 0-6) and families
• Hands on instruction and delivery of programs may be required within Early Recreation programs and special events, as well as Child Minding
• Build relationships with children, their families and community
• Staff management, including recruitment and training, staff development and direct support
• To complete administrative tasks including scheduling, data entry, filing, and program administration
• Support and promote development for all programs and services, research, management and evaluation to ensure delivery of leading edge programming
• Ensure staff follows Health and Safety Protocols and Policies, Alberta Licensing Standards, and Westside Policies
• Maintenance and safety of program areas, equipment, and supplies
• Take on a supervisory role within the Children and Youth department to provide coverage, staff supervision and team collaboration when required

Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services.

The Early Recreation Program Lead is a hands-on supervisory role that is responsible for the development and implementation of Early Recreational Programs (2-6yrs), support Child Minding services (0-12yrs), and develops and leads Special Events for children and their families at Westside Recreation. This role is in the Children and Youth Department.

The Early Recreation Program Lead will focus on Early Recreation experiences that are safe, fun and engaging. This role will have a balance between in-ratio hours and administrative tasks, totaling 22.5 hours a week, including Saturday and Sundays, and an additional day throughout the week.

Employment Term:

This is a year-round, part-time position, reporting within the Children and Youth Department. This position will work Saturday and Sunday, between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and additional hours on Friday and/or Monday, totaling 22.5 hours a week. Flexibility for hours outside of the regular schedule (evenings and weekends) is required. Anticipated start date for this position is October 2026.
