MacEwan University is seeking a Program Manager for a full-time, 12-month Non-Recurring Term opportunity with the School of Continuing Education.

Reporting to the Program Director, Training and Educational Development, the Program Manager is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of continuing professional education programs, supporting all phases of delivery from program planning, launch, delivery, evaluation and review. You will deliver excellent customer service to instructors, students, and program participants, successfully supporting the delivery of face-to-face and online non-credit courses.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a portfolio of continuing education programs - responsible for the direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of multiple projects within the assigned portfolio of programs;
  • Serving as the subject matter expert for programs within the assigned portfolio, while also maintaining awareness and understanding of programs within other portfolios to ensure alignment and consistency, and to be able to provide coverage or backup support where required;
  • Developing and maintaining an overall project management framework and employing project management best practices. Maintaining full project life cycle coordination from initiation through to completion, including coordinating project resources, reporting on project deliverables, ensuring key milestones are reached and developing change management, issues management, and communication plans; ensuring projects are completed within timelines, budget and set objectives;
  • Collaborating with team members to set program, enrollment and marketing schedules in accordance with established program timelines and best practices;
  • Coordinating collaboration between subject matter experts (SMEs) and Instructional Designers to align course goals, learning outcomes, and instructional strategies;
  • Maintaining communication throughout the project design and development processes, keeping stakeholders and contributors accountable to established timelines;
  • Supporting the Senior Program Manager in the process to source qualified instructors and subject matter experts, as applicable, with expertise aligned to program goals and audience needs;
  • Maintaining a master list of program instructors including which courses they are approved to teach and prioritization for future course section employment offers. Collaborating with Program Administrators to issue employment contracts;
  • Conducting course and program evaluations, and incorporating feedback into course and program re-development; and
  • Providing feedback to instructors based on evaluation results; in the event that performance concerns are brought forward regarding instructors (i.e., performance feedback), the Program Manager will inform and escalate the concern to the SR Program Manager/Program Director.

  • Demonstrated strong planning and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously;
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of trends and best practices in adult learning principles, universal design for learning, continuing education, and workforce and professional development;
  • The ability to bring projects to successful completion on time and on budget;
  • A proven ability to troubleshoot and manage project issues challenges effectively and proactively;
  • A demonstrated understanding of cost accounting principles including break-even/profit analysis for individual projects;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders at varying levels within the organization;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and build/maintain strong working relationships;
  • The ability to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including SMEs and Instructional Designers;
  • Strong analytical skills to assess program performance and make data-driven decisions;
  • The ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with others and to maintain confidentiality;
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Results-oriented skills, allowing you to multitask effectively, take initiative, adapt flexibly to changing situations and priorities, and meet critical deadlines with confidence;
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of project management tools and software (i.e., MS Project);
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook) and SharePoint;
  • Experience using project management software (i.e. Microsoft Projects); and
  • Familiarity with database management tools, learning management systems, digital learning tools and student registration systems would be considered an asset.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Instructional Design or related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in program management, project management, course development or a similar field that demonstrates the ability to successfully plan and execute deadline-driven projects with minimal supervision.
  • Training, education, certification, or significant experience in project management.
  • Experience working within a post-secondary or other learning environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a corporate L&D environment is considered an asset.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or working toward completion of PMP (in-progress) is considered an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
