Program Manager, Foundation Relations - Strategic Planning and Alignment

This role leads the hospital-side planning, assessment and coordination of Foundation Relations processes that connect institutional priorities, fundraising opportunities, donor intent, granting decisions and funded deliverables across SickKids, the Research Institute, Learning Institute and SickKids Foundation. Working at the intersection of strategy, philanthropy and impact, the role helps assess philanthropic opportunities, develop decision-ready recommendations, support donor-funded initiatives, and ensure commitments are aligned, tracked, communicated and fulfilled.

As a key resource within Foundation Relations, the successful candidate will work closely with leaders and partners across the Hospital and Foundation to strengthen alignment, clarify roles and responsibilities, support effective decision-making, and advance shared priorities in a complex, matrixed environment.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Lead the planning, assessment and coordination of philanthropic opportunities that connect Hospital and research priorities with Foundation fundraising priorities, donor interests and funded deliverables.


• Translate institutional priorities into clear, decision-ready fundraising opportunities, cases for support, opportunity briefs and recommendations.


• Assess philanthropic opportunities for strategic alignment, feasibility, stakeholder requirements, funding parameters, risks, dependencies and organizational readiness.


• Support donor-driven opportunities by identifying appropriate institutional fit, shaping recommendations and advising on whether opportunities should proceed, be refined, redirected or escalated.


• Coordinate hospital-side granting processes and funding workflows, including intake, prioritization support, documentation, approvals and escalation pathways.


• Develop and maintain tools, trackers and reporting mechanisms to monitor opportunities, commitments, timelines, decisions, dependencies and risks.


• Analyze information to identify gaps, trends, delays or decisions required, and provide practical recommendations to support timely action.


• Facilitate communication and alignment among Hospital, Research Institute, Learning Institute and Foundation partners to support role clarity, issue resolution and coordinated action.


• Identify and elevate operational, reputational, timing, governance and alignment risks, with clear analysis, options and recommended mitigation strategies.


• Support the development and continuous improvement of Foundation Relations processes, tools, templates and decision‑making pathways.

Essential

Here’s What You’ll Need

• University degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Experience working in a complex healthcare, research, academic, non‑profit or similarly complex environment.


• Strong ability to translate complex priorities, program needs and strategic initiatives into clear, decision‑ready materials.


• Demonstrated experience assessing strategic alignment, feasibility, risks, dependencies and stakeholder requirements to support planning and decision‑making.


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and judgment skills, with the ability to develop options and recommend practical solutions.


• Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and navigate sensitive or complex issues.


• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders and deliverables with a high degree of independence, accuracy and attention to detail.


• Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.

Assets

• Postgraduate education in a relevant field, such as health administration, business administration or public policy.


• Project management, stakeholder engagement, fundraising or non‑profit management training or experience.


• Experience working with or supporting philanthropy, fundraising, donor‑funded initiatives or restricted funding.


• Experience using dashboards, trackers or reporting tools to support planning and decision‑making.
