Job description

Title : Program Manager, First Tee – Ontario

Reports to : Chapter Head, First Tee – Ontario, Golf Canada

Status : Full Time

First Tee – Ontario is a youth development program governed by Golf Canada that uses golf as a platform to offer children from all backgrounds the opportunity to develop transformational life skills through sport. Golf Canada is looking for a motivated, mission driven individual to lead the programmatic operations of the First Tee – Ontario chapter.

The Program Manager, First Tee – Ontario will report directly to the Chapter Head, First Tee – Ontario and will be responsible for strategic planning, promotion and key stakeholder communication in accordance with procedures established by First Tee. Additional responsibilities include fiscal management, policy implementation and safe delivery of programming.

This opportunity will appeal to an individual who is a high achiever and looking for an opportunity to create, nurture and grow a significant program in Canadian golf.

PRIMARY DUTIES :

Program Development and Staff Management 50%

  • Collaborate with Chapter Head, First Tee – Ontario on developing and implementing programmatic strategic plan.
  • Provide leadership to Program Coordinators ensuring effective implementation of First Tee’s curriculum and youth development programs.
  • Negotiate program / delivery agreements, contracts and commitments with golf facilities, community organizations and school districts within Ontario.
  • Develop, implement, and update program policies and procedures in conjunction with National Program Manager, First Tee – Canada.
  • Report program metrics, operations data, and pertinent program data to Golf Canada and First Tee – Ontario Ambassador Committee.
  • Develop a volunteer management system to ensure sufficient adult mentors and quality programming, including recruitment, training, recognition, and retention plan.

Relationship Management and Outreach 25%

  • Develop and nurture partnerships with schools and community organizations for the First Tee School Program and Community Program respectively.
  • Strategize and implement transition opportunities for outreach.
  • Identify and recruit strategic program affiliate sites within Chapter service area.
  • Collaborate effectively with Golf Ontario to ensure continued support and alignment of First Tee – Ontario’s growth and development.
  • Assist the Chapter Head, First Tee – Ontario and Development Officer, First Tee – Ontario with philanthropic endeavors including individual donors, events and general outreach.
  • Participate in Ambassador Committee meetings.
  • Network with other First Tee - Canada Chapter colleagues and exchange best practice ideas.

Marketing / Communications 15%

  • Collaborate with the broader Media and PR teams across the organization to build the public profile of First Tee – Ontario through marketing, outreach, and events.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional brochures to increase awareness of the programs and facility.
  • Coordinate communication activities for openings, special events, newsletter, printed materials, and the website.
  • Manage the First Tee – Ontario program website.
  • Implement public education and outreach activities, including public presentations, advocacy, training, and testimony.

Administration 10%

  • Assist Chapter Head, First Tee – Ontario in developing and adhering to the Program & Operating budget.
  • Manage First Tee – Ontario program budget including monitoring all receipts and disbursements.
  • Share in the development of the Business Plan and oversee its implementation.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES :

  • University / College degree or equivalent in sport management, business, or related field.
  • 3-5 years sport / recreation program management experience is preferred
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication, fiscal management, and managerial skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Experience in identifying and managing program staff and volunteers
  • Knowledge and experience in program evaluation and development
  • Able to work with youth and a passion for youth development
  • Able to travel to attend training and networking meetings
  • Experience as PGA of Canada or LPGA teaching professional is considered an asset
  • Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset

Golf Canada’s regular hours of work are 40 hours per week, namely Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day and 5 days a week including a one-hour lunch. However, the demands of your position may require your hours of work to vary to meet the objectives of your employment. Due to the nature of this position, there may also be some travel required and the need to work some weekends.
