Job summary

City of Mount Pearl is seeking a Program Facilitator to implement and support planned programming for the Inclusive Day Program. The role focuses on facilitating inclusive activities that promote creativity, physical activity, and social interaction for adults of all abilities.

Under the supervision of the Accessibility, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator, you will ensure safety, adapt activities to individual needs, and support participants in transitions between activities including swimming

Qualifications

• Must hold valid First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
• RNC Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check dated no longer than six months prior to hire.
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate daily activities and support participants in all program components.
• Ensure the safety, inclusion, and well-being of all participants during program hours.
• Adapt activities and materials to meet the individual needs and abilities of participants.
• Assist participants with transitions between activities, including recreation and swimming sessions.
• Collaborate with the ADI Coordinator and other staff to deliver engaging and meaningful programming.
• Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Provide respectful, person-centered support and uphold the City’s values of inclusion, diversity, and accessibility.
• Assist in the setup and cleanup of activity areas and equipment.
• Must be comfortable participating in aquatic-based programming, including entering the pool to assist participants as required.
• Hours of work will vary based on program scheduling and participant needs.

The Role

Under the supervision of the Accessibility, Diversity & Inclusion (ADI) Coordinator, the Program Facilitator(s) will be responsible for implementing and supporting planned programming for the City of Mount Pearl’s Inclusive Day Program.

This position involves facilitating a variety of inclusive and engaging activities that promote creativity, physical activity, and social interaction among adults of all abilities. Facilitators will ensure participant safety, program adaptability, and a positive, welcoming environment that supports independence, confidence, and community connection.

Program components may include creative arts and expression, adapted sports and recreation, swimming, and life skill–based activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Facilitate daily activities and support participants in all program components.
• Ensure the safety, inclusion, and well-being of all participants during program hours.
• Adapt activities and materials to meet the individual needs and abilities of participants.
• Assist participants with transitions between activities, including recreation and swimming sessions.
• Collaborate with the ADI Coordinator and other staff to deliver engaging and meaningful programming.
• Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Provide respectful, person-centered support and uphold the City’s values of inclusion, diversity, and accessibility.
• Assist in the setup and cleanup of activity areas and equipment.
• Must be comfortable participating in aquatic-based programming, including entering the pool to assist participants as required.
• Hours of work will vary based on program scheduling and participant needs. This position may include daytime hours between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on designated program days.

Qualifications

• Considerable experience and knowledge in working with individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
• Group Fitness Instructor certification (CSEP, CCAA, canfitpro, or equivalent.
• Educational background in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or a related health or human services field is considered an asset.
• Must hold valid First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset.
• Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check (dated no longer than six months prior to hire) are required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support participants in a group setting.
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and adaptability when supporting individuals with mobility or balance challenges.
• Previous experience in rehabilitation, adapted physical activity, or inclusion-based fitness programming is considered an asset.
