Job description

About Us:

Crane Lake Discovery Camp is a therapeutic wilderness program for boys aged 10-15 years. We are a private school operating on about two hundred acres of land near MacTier, Ontario, following the methodology of therapeutic wilderness camping developed by Campbell Loughmiller. We have a dedicated team of people living and working full-time at camp. They form a supportive, caring community in our remote location, and that support and care overflows to the way we care for the campers.

About This Position:

The Program Director provides overall leadership and coordination for all aspects of Crane Lake Discovery Camp, including programming, educational services, camper development, staff supervision, and operational systems. Working collaboratively with the Group Work Supervisor and camp staff, this role ensures that all camp activities, schedules, and initiatives align with the camp’s philosophy and support the growth and well-being of campers.

The Program Director oversees camper therapeutic, educational, and personal development through goal setting, assessments, evaluations, and individualized support. This includes coordinating educational programming, maintaining camper portfolios, facilitating assessments, and ensuring smooth academic transitions between camp and campers’ home schools.

This role is responsible for the supervision, training, scheduling, and evaluation of Counsellors and the Group Work Supervisor. The Program Director ensures consistent staff development, strong team communication, and effective group leadership through ongoing training, debriefs, performance reviews, and operational oversight.

In addition, the Program Director supports camp-wide operations including activity planning, scheduling, transportation, safety procedures, and crisis response. Spiritual leadership is also provided through chapel services and camp-wide initiatives that build community and foster positive relationships among campers and staff.
