Job summary

Crane Lake Discovery Camp is seeking a Group Work Supervisor to oversee day-to-day group programming for our wilderness therapy program near MacTier, Ontario. You will supervise counsellors, guide therapy goals, oversee academic work and ensure campers have appropriate clothing and safety.

The role requires maturity, stability and the ability to mentor campers and staff, with responsibilities spanning outdoor activities, building projects and weekly progress summaries.

Qualifications

• Must be in good physical condition and enjoy the wilderness.
• Mature, dedicated Christian.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Ability to mentor campers and counsellors.
• Willing to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day activities of the group (goal setting, progress reports).
• Supervise academic work of the group (plans, article writing, menus, letters home).
• Build a strong relationship with each camper.
• Supervise and assist counsellors as needed.
• Lead daily Chuckwagon program (educational program in dining hall) with other staff.
• Oversight of trips and goal planning.
• Oversight of building projects.
• Write a quarterly summary of each boy's progress.

About Us:

Crane Lake Discovery Camp is a therapeutic wilderness program for boys aged 10-15 years. We are a private school operating on about two hundred acres of land near MacTier, Ontario, following the methodology of therapeutic wilderness camping developed by Campbell Loughmiller. We have a dedicated team of people living and working full-time at camp. They form a supportive, caring community in our remote location, and that support and care overflows to the way we care for the campers.

About This Role:

The Group Work Supervisor oversees the group programming on a day-to-day basis, supervising and assisting counsellors, helping the group meet therapy goals, and overseeing academic work. He also oversees building projects at the campsite and is responsible to make sure campers have adequate clothing. He is a voice of experience, maturity, and stability to the group.

• Ability to oversee education, following the curiosity of campers.


• Ability to work evenings and weekends.


• High School diploma (or equivalent). A degree in social work or psychology is an asset.


• Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
