Business in the Streets (BITS) is a Canadian non-profit that supports young people from underserved, marginalized, and underrepresented communities through the power of entrepreneurship. We help emerging entrepreneurs build their skills, grow their confidence, and access the funding and mentorship they need to turn ideas into real economic opportunity.

We believe the best solutions come from people who understand and care about community. If you're passionate about youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and creating access where it's needed most, you’ll feel right at home here.

------------------------------

About the Position

As BITS expands into Ottawa, we’re seeking a highly motivated, community-connected Program Coordinator to oversee local programming and operations. This contract role is perfect for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, has strong roots in Ottawa’s youth-serving ecosystem, and can take initiative in a new market.

You’ll serve as the key point of contact for participants and community partners, helping to deliver and adapt our programs to best meet local needs. Working closely with the national team in Toronto, you’ll manage data, logistics, partnerships, and participant experience with a balance of structure and entrepreneurial energy.

------------------------------

What You’ll Be Getting Up To

  • You'll build and maintain the systems (think spreadsheets, databases, and checklists) that keep our programs humming, and help us report back to funders with pride.
  • You’ll make sure everyone gets a warm welcome and a smooth send-off, whether they’re a participant, mentor, or volunteer. From onboarding emails to exit surveys, you’re on it.
  • You’ll run interviews, host orientations, and gather feedback like a pro - ensuring every voice is heard and every detail is noted.
  • You’ll be the logistics wizard behind the scenes; booking venues, organizing snacks, making sure tech works, and ensuring everyone knows where to be and when (and why!).
  • You’ll be the person for all things Ottawa. Participants, facilitators, and partners will turn to you because you’re grounded, approachable, and deeply in the know.
  • You’ll build real relationships with local agencies, youth leaders, and community organizations - and keep them strong with authentic communication and follow-through.
  • You’ll team up with BITS staff to help spotlight Ottawa-based success stories and creative outreach ideas.
  • You’ll keep tabs on attendance, collect feedback, and help make sense of the data so we can keep getting better at what we do.
  • When something’s off, you won’t just raise a flag; you’ll offer ideas, solutions, and support, while looping in the team when needed.
  • You’ll rep BITS with pride at local events, community meetings, and program launches. You won’t just show up - you’ll show up with purpose.
  • You’ll pitch in wherever needed. Whether it’s brainstorming with the ED or supporting behind the scenes—because that’s just how you roll.

------------------------------

  • Salary: $55,000-60,000/year, based on experience

  • Hours: 35 hours/week; Saturday availability required (approx. 24 days/year)
  • Location: Remote-first role based in Ottawa with some local travel and periodical trips to Toronto for team strategy meetings
  • Format: Most work is performed remotely on a computer. Some program and on-site event support may involve lifting materials up to 40 lbs.
