The Acute Care Program is currently seeking a part-time, temporary (until November 2026) Program Assistant to work on the Crisis Critical Care Treatment Unit 6.

Responsibilities

The Program Assistant will contribute to and participate in the assessment of designated clients and will provide direct patient care, particularly through ensuring a safe environment. This role involves incorporating principles of least restraint and spending time on the unit with clients to help minimize agitation. As part of this role you will accompany clients off site for medical clearance and for any other transfers/appointments as deemed necessary. In addition, you will be responsible for communicating both verbally and in writing behavioural observations, assessments and client’s responses to care interventions. In this role you will assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static security elements of the program and service. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position requires 12 hours shift rotation, including weekday night shifts and weekend day and night shifts, and is located at 1051 Queen Street West.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Secondary School diploma or equivalent and preference will be given to candidates that have 1 year of experience in a health care related field. The successful candidate will possess a Personal Care Worker Certificate or possess or be in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health care discipline. CPR is considered as an asset. Ability to work with diverse clients and staff is required. The successful applicant will possess effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment. You must be reliable, co-operative and client-focused as well as a motivated team player who shows initiative. In addition, you will possess effective organizational, problem-solving and communication skills, both verbal and written. Familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and or addictions settings is preferred. You will have the ability to work with clients from diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds, teams and stakeholders and demonstrate high levels of sensitivity and diplomacy. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
