Job summary

Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program in Vaughan, Ontario is hiring a Program Assistant for a full-time, on-site role. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to provide compassionate, client-centered support to seniors and individuals living with dementia or frailty.

The position involves assisting with ADLs, meals, medications, and transportation, with a rotating schedule including every other weekend. Competitive salary and benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • PSW or HC Aide certification required or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certificates required.
  • Food Handler Training certificate is an asset.
  • Experience with frail elderly and dementia preferred.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Support and engage clients in recreational and group programming.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs).
  • Assist with meals and supervising feeding.
  • Welcome clients to the program and assist with transportation.
  • Escort and support clients during program transportation as required.
  • Assist with meal plating and serving, including Kosher and non-Kosher meals.
  • Support food preparation and kitchen duties as required.
  • Administer medications under RN/Supervisor supervision.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming program environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing education.

Job description

Located in Southern York Region, Circle of Care’s Adult Day Program is funded by Ontario Health at Home. The program provides a welcoming and engaging environment where seniors can participate in stimulating activities that bring connection, enjoyment, and purpose to their day.

Our clients may be living with dementia, physical frailty, developmental disabilities, or receiving palliative care. As a Program Assistant, you will work closely with an interdisciplinary team including Recreationists, Nurses, Social Workers, students, and other Program Assistants to provide compassionate, client-centred support.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys working with seniors, thrives in a team environment, and is comfortable supporting clients with personal care and activities of daily living.

We looking for: A Full-Time Permanent Program Assistant
Hours of Work: Rotating schedule, including every other weekend. Regular shifts are 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with rotating Wednesday shifts from 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Weekend Shifts: Every other weekend, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: On-site position - 9600 Bathurst Street, Unit 4, Vaughan, Ontario L6A 3Z8
Reports to: Supervisor, Adult Day Program

Compensation

Hiring Salary Range: The salary for this role ranges from $39,000 to $47,000 per year, depending on your skills and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support and engage clients in recreational and group programming.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including eating, toileting, bathing and personal care.
  • Assist with feeding and supervise clients during meals.
  • Welcome clients to the program and assist them with getting on and off Adult Day Program transportation.
  • Escort and support clients during program transportation as required.
  • Assist with plating, preparing and serving meals, including Kosher and non-Kosher meals.
  • Support food preparation and other kitchen-related duties as required.
  • Administer medications under the supervision and direction of the RN/Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming program environment.
  • Monitor client safety and identify potential risks, including fall risks, responding promptly when concerns arise.
  • Maintain client privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, training and ongoing education.
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide safe, respectful and client-centred care

  • Promptly report client health and safety concerns to the ADP Supervisor and/or Manger.
  • Participate in all health and safety processes and procedures.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe workplace environment that encourages positive team building and support.
  • Participate in all Adult Day Program health, safety and client education.
  • Identify, manage and/or minimize client safety risks or situations.
  • Evaluate any potential hazards and identify clients at risk for adverse health and safety events.
  • Reporting all safety events impacting clients, caregivers and families to Supervisor/Manager in a timely and honest manner.

Qualifications

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from a curriculum approved by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities or Ministry of Education OR Health Care Aide OR Foreign-trained Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred, ideally within a group setting, Adult Day Program, Long-Term Care, retirement residence or similar care environment.
  • Valid CPR, First Aid Certificate.
  • Food Handler Training Certificate is an asset.
  • Experience in a community setting, Adult Day Program, or Long-Term Care is preferred.
  • Experience working with frail and/or cognitively impaired elderly population and their families.
  • Experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia.
  • Experience in assisting in recreational programming for seniors.
  • Experience working with clients in a Jewish environment is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team and independently.
  • Communicating in a clear and effective manner, demonstrating respect, empathy and understanding.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
  • An effective team player.
