Job description

A leading public utility dedicated to delivering safe, sustainable energy and infrastructure solutions across British Columbia is seeking two experienced Registered Professional Foresters (RPFs) for capital project support in Abbotsford and Nanaimo.
This is a 10.5-month contract, with a focus on vegetation management, forestry planning, and access development. The Project Forester will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible implementation of clearing and access work for large-scale projects. Successful candidates will work on-site, liaising with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes that meet both regulatory and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide subject matter expertise for vegetation management and forestry operations across capital projects.
  • Analyze and interpret technical data to support planning for timber harvesting, vegetation clearing, and access infrastructure.
  • Develop cost estimates and manage forestry-related contracts, including layout and engineering services.
  • Perform quality assurance on contract deliverables and ensure adherence to specifications and timelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including contractors, First Nations, government representatives, landowners, and internal departments.
  • Support environmental permitting, regulatory approvals, and Indigenous consultation processes.
  • Regularly report on project progress, compliance, and schedule.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in good standing with the Association of BC Forest Professionals.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in:
    • Utility vegetation management or industrial forestry
    • Forest planning, stakeholder engagement, timber operations, and road construction
  • Strong knowledge of BC forestry legislation, environmental compliance, and permitting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe software
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Availability to travel regularly throughout BC and work in off-road environments
Nice-to-Have
  • Experience in utility or energy sector projects
  • Background in Indigenous engagement or consultation
  • Familiarity with environmental certification or sustainability standards
Additional Details
  • Safety & Compliance: This is a safety-sensitive role; pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and medical checks are required.
  • Vehicle Requirement: Work will involve off-road travel; a 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended.
