Job summary

Star Truss, a division of Star Building Materials, is seeking Production Workers for full-time, on-site roles in Winnipeg. The afternoon shift runs 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, with daytime training for two weeks. The starting wage is $18.15 per hour, plus a $1.00 per hour afternoon shift premium.

Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for up to 2 1/2 hours, and read a tape measure. CSA safety boots are required.

Qualifications

  • Previous truss manufacturing experience is preferred, but not necessary.
  • No formal training is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 2 1/2 hours.
  • CSA approved safety shoes/boots, to be purchased by the employee before commencing work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up the truss jig and moving materials to the production table.
  • Assemble each truss per engineering shop drawings and ensure correct placement of connector plates.
  • Ensure materials are of good quality, correct size & grade, and labeled properly.
  • Follow safety rules and clean up work areas at shift end.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by management.

  • Afternoon Shift: 3:30 pm – 12:00 am

Training for afternoon shift is during the day shift for a 2-week period to start, so daytime availability (7 am to 3:30 pm) is required for training only.

Starting wage:$18.15/hour. There is a $1.00/hour shift premium for the afternoon shift.

Requirements
  • Previous truss manufacturing experience is preferred, but not necessary.
  • No formal training is required.
  • Must be physically able to:
    • Climb up and down from an approximately 3 foot high work area several times per hour.
    • Stand for up to 2 ½ hours at a time without rest.
    • Lift wood trusses and components up to 16 feet long and weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to use and read a tape measure.
  • CSA approved safety shoes/boots, to be purchased by the employee before commencing work.
Job Overview

Production Workers work within the guidelines set by management, working closely with the Lead Hand/Table Captain and Production Manager.

  • The production workflow is as follows:Assisting in setting up the truss jig, moving materials to the production table; assembling each truss as per the engineering shop drawings; ensuring that the connector plates are placed correctly on both sides of the truss; that all material is of good quality, the correct size & grade, and cut to the correct specifications; and that each truss is labeled correctly.
  • Observe and comply with all safety rules.
  • Clean up work areas at the end of each shift.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by management.
  • Tools required to perform daily duties: hard hat, safety vest, gloves and other PPE will be supplied by Star Truss.
Working Conditions

Work is full time, on site, for both day and/or afternoon Shifts. Work has exposure to noise from equipment/machinery and other occupational hazards, as well as dealing with inclement weather and dust.
