PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As a Production Supervisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence. You’ll lead and inspire a skilled team, ensuring every project runs smoothly, safely, and on schedule. From planning and workforce allocation to overseeing shop‑floor activities, you’ll be the go‑to leader who keeps production efficient and quality‑driven. Your leadership will not only optimize performance but also foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Lead job briefings, end‑of‑shift reviews, and safety meetings by clearly communicating expectations and ensuring compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and policies through proficiency testing and safety tracking
  • Identify, correct, and document safety incidents and hazards; conduct investigations and implement corrective actions in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager and Health & Safety Committee within prescribed timelines
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback on job and safety performance, recognizing achievements and applying balanced consequences when necessary
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate stock of parts and materials; manage ordering within established limits
  • Support budget management by aligning expenditures with financial objectives
  • Maintain open communication and foster positive relationships with local union officials; ensure adherence to the collective agreement as written
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and operational efficiency; actively support Lean principles and practices
  • Assist mechanical and electrical teams during incidents within jurisdiction, following the Emergency Response Plan guidelines
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Familiar with PLC systems and proficient in fixed plant maintenance, preventive maintenance programs, and operation of turning and milling equipment
  • Skilled in CNC production machinery, automated plant equipment, troubleshooting automation algorithms, and quality monitoring systems
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise instructions and collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre‑employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
