About us

In Trench Canada, we deliver state-of-the-art, safe, and reliable instrument transformers, coils, and bushings for seamless energy transmission. With a legacy of customized engineering and innovation, we enable society to harness the power of electricity with reliability and performance. We genuinely care about continuous improvement, and our dynamic workplace values attention to detail and adaptability, fostering a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion where everyone is respected and truly valued.

The Role

We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Production Supervisor to lead day-to-day operations in a unionized manufacturing environment producing high-voltage equipment for the power transmission industry. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor will be responsible for executing production plans, ensuring compliance with Ontario’s regulatory standards, driving safety initiatives, and leading manufacturing excellence on the shop floor.

This role requires active involvement in EHS risk assessments, root cause analysis, and the development and implementation of manufacturing procedures, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and on-time delivery in a make-to-order production setting.

Your Tasks:
  1. Supervise daily operations and direct hourly production employees in a unionized environment, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and productivity targets are met.
  2. Ensure compliance with applicable Ontario health and safety regulations, including OHSA and CSA standards relevant to electrical manufacturing and high-voltage equipment.
  3. Actively participate in EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) risk assessments and contribute to hazard identification, mitigation, and corrective actions.
  4. Lead or support root cause analysis for safety incidents, quality defects, or production disruptions using tools such as 5 Whys or Fishbone Diagrams.
  5. Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of manufacturing procedures and standard work instructions, ensuring best practices and regulatory compliance.
  6. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support smooth execution of make-to-order production schedules.
  7. Provide guidance and support to team members, promote a positive labor-management relationship, and ensure adherence to the collective agreement.
  8. Monitor key metrics such as labor efficiency, scrap, rework, and downtime; identify trends and propose corrective actions.
  9. Maintain accurate documentation related to work orders, safety inspections, and quality checks.
  10. Support continuous improvement activities, including Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
Key Competencies:
  1. Solid understanding of Ontario’s occupational health and safety laws, including knowledge of ESA, WSIB, and OHSA regulations.
  2. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with proven success in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  3. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
  4. Skilled in problem-solving techniques and driving root cause investigations.
  5. Familiarity with Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies.
  6. Strong organizational and communication skills; able to coordinate effectively across departments.
Requirements:
  1. College diploma or university degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing/assembly environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  3. Ability to work on a 3-shift rotation and cover other supervisor shifts as required.
  4. Experience in make-to-order production and high-voltage or electro-mechanical equipment is highly preferred.
  5. Prior experience working in a unionized environment is required.
  6. Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite.
We offer:
  • The opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of optical current measurement technology and sustainable energy transmission in an innovative company.
  • You will work in a motivated team on forward-looking projects and gain insights into the latest technologies.
  • Support from experienced professionals in handling the latest measurement technology.
