Mariposa Dairy is a leading manufacturer of award-winning cheeses based in Lindsay, Ontario. Our aim is to provide the highest quality cheese products in North America through the efforts of our skilled and valued team for the benefit of our customers and community.
We are currently seeking a full-time Production Supervisor . Our organization is a growing and dynamic business and operates in our two facilities just off Hwy. 36 in Lindsay, Ontario.
This position is responsible for day-to-day leadership, supervision, and co-ordination of production staff to achieve required production, environmental and quality standards, in a safe and efficient manner. Production Supervisors are leaders at Mariposa, and lead by example. Flexibility of hours is essential for this job, depending on production targets, including weekends if required. You must be available to work shifts on a rotating basis. Morning shifts start as early as 4:00 am, and afternoon shifts starting as early at 1:00 pm.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain positive employee relations through good communication and fair treatment that is consistent with Mariposa Dairy’s core values and objectives. Foster an inclusive and respectful workplace culture that encourages engagement and collaboration across all levels.
- Ensure annual production volumes meet or exceed plan, and operate at full capacity on a regular basis by minimizing plant downtime and removing production bottlenecks.
- Optimize labour efficiency and utilization through strategic workforce planning, task standardization, and cross-training initiatives to ensure flexibility and adaptability across shifts and departments.
- Monitor and analyze yield performance regularly. Implement corrective actions to minimize yield loss and ensure maximum product recovery while maintaining product quality and food safety standards.
- Drive throughput improvements by identifying constraints in the production process, implementing process enhancements, and maintaining a balance between capacity, quality, and labour.
- Develop and drive a zero incident safety culture by proactively providing a safe work environment. Support and promote Mariposa’s Health and Safety Program, with a constant focus on safe work practices; safety MUST be the highest priority.
- Lead by example in cultivating a continuous improvement mindset, empowering employees to identify inefficiencies and contribute ideas that improve safety, quality, yield, productivity, and morale. Use structured problem-solving tools such as root cause analysis, 5 Whys, and PDCA to drive sustainable improvement.
- Champion the implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other CI methodologies to eliminate waste, reduce variability, and enhance process control across production areas.
- Ensure that production employees are properly trained, and work with HR in the ongoing development and implementation of Mariposa’s Skill Development Program to build competencies and drive career progression.
- Work with Quality Assurance to maintain all aspects of the FSSC-ISO22000 quality system. Promote a culture of food safety and quality by ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
- Monitor product quality, and direct employees to adjust processes as needed to meet customer specifications. Provide ongoing support to employees and production management to sustain and improve QA practices and procedures.
- Ensure environmental compliance for the facility by being aware of regulatory requirements and ensuring these requirements are met. Ensure that routine inspections are completed, and all records are accurately maintained.
- Monitor and continuously improve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, yield, labour efficiency, throughput, and downtime. Provide regular performance analysis and lead execution of action plans to meet or exceed targets.
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to prioritize, plan, and complete routine and shutdown maintenance to minimize production disruptions and extend equipment life.
- Protect company assets through a sound program of maintenance including good housekeeping, record keeping, and proper security control.
- Lead and support cross-functional teams to implement projects that enhance productivity, reduce costs, improve quality, and support growth objectives.
- Other duties, as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience in a food production operation preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience, ideally in an industrial setting.
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills, with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization with tact.
- Must be a self-directed individual, well organized, goal oriented, and excellent problem solver and planning skills.
- Ability to adapt to change, and manage multiple demands, and shifting work priorities.
- Must be business, results, and values oriented.
- Able to work rotating shifts, with some weekend work.
- Working knowledge of Ontario’s legislative framework (Employment Standards Act (ESA) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)).
MINIMUM CRITERIA:
- Must have excellent attendance.
- Intermediate to exceptional MS Office skills.
- Have a strong safety record, and contribute to a culture of safety.
- Must be able to follow SOP, GMP and complete forms accurately.
- Must have a good and positive attitude towards change and other employees.
- Able to work as a part of a functional team, and be an exceptional fit with the Mariposa Dairy Team.
- Unrestricted cross border mobility, and the possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid passport.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
