Job Overview

The Sunnybrook Research Institute’s Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Research TMS technician to join the Interventional Psychiatry Lab led by Dr. Sean Nestor. This role focuses on research in neuromodulation therapies for treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders. The successful candidate will administer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in multiple clinical trials and contribute to the design, coordination, and execution of clinical studies in a collaborative, fast-paced, research-intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Administer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and conduct psychiatric clinical and functional measures in populations with depression and post-concussion syndrome as part of clinical trial protocols involving MRI.
  2. Report events (e.g., side effects, adverse events) related to TMS treatment.
  3. Coordinate a clinical trial investigating the effects of psilocybin on depression.
  4. Assist with all phases of clinical research: recruitment, consent, data collection, data management.
  5. Conduct or support EEG and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sessions.
  6. Write and maintain REBs, amendments, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  7. Prepare figures, materials, and write-ups for presentations, publications, and grant proposals.
  8. Collaborate across disciplines while managing day-to-day lab operations independently.
Qualifications
  1. Honours Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field (required). A Master’s degree and advanced communication skills are strongly preferred.
  2. Minimum 1 year experience in clinical research or psychiatry/psychology studies.
  3. Comfortable juggling multiple tasks and projects in a regulated research environment.
  4. Experience with participant interaction, recruitment, standardized interviews or questionnaires, data extraction from medical records, ethics board applications, and compliance.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; REDCap (preferred); statistical/data visualization software (asset).
  6. Certifications: Canada GCP, Health Canada Division 5, TCPS2, CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in TMS administration for clinical populations.
  2. Experience in biostatistics, research ethics, manuscript, and grant writing.
  3. Interest or prior exposure to neuromodulation techniques, especially rTMS, with willingness to be trained in its clinical delivery.
  4. Previous work on clinical trials involving psychiatric interventions.
