Production Buyer

As part of the Operations team and reporting to the Manager of Procurement; the Production Buyer will have a direct impact on the achievement of revenue targets while maintaining cost reductions. All roles at FLIR require great teamwork, a passion for getting things done, and a continuous improvement mindset. We work smart and hard by solving problems and making sure the solution works for all stakeholders.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with Operations, project teams, and vendors as the procurement lead.
  • Be responsible for planning orders, making the purchases, and at times negotiating contracts with suppliers. This also includes ensuring the supply of raw materials with urgency and under deadlines driven by operations requirements.
  • Make ERP/MRP based purchases for operations.
  • Follow up with vendors and suppliers for delivery, expedite as required, and resolve payment discrepancies by working with Accounts Payable.
  • Be creative in problem resolution to supply issues, that reduce overall lead time, lower part cost and improve part quality.
  • Support department goals and objectives by continually looking for cost savings, either through the development of new suppliers or negotiating with existing suppliers.
  • Participate in any of the operating system improvement processes (planning, inventory and other) to help meet department KPIs (inventory turns, BOM cost, downtime).
  • Ensure that purchased products meet the requirements of Teledyne FLIR, GTC and environmental guidelines.
  • Continuously work with the team and the broader organization including engineering, production, finance, IT, facilities and sales.
  • Help with vendor management/development (audits, on-boarding, visits, day to day working relationships).

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent is preferred.
  • APICS, ISM, CPM or CPIM certificate preferred.
  • 6+ years of purchasing or equivalent experience in advanced manufacturing, assembly environments; preferably in a technology organization.
  • Experience with issuing and expediting purchase orders, expediting shortages, purchase order maintenance, monitoring quality and delivery performance, vendor audits and corrective action requests, lead time reduction and problem resolution.
  • Documented and tangible workplace accomplishments.
  • Accustomed to working with a worldwide supply base located in different time-zones.
  • Proven track record with increasing productivity and working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with autonomy, leadership, and ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent ability in negotiation and resolution of issues.
  • Knowledge of technology, electronic componentry, is an asset.
  • Familiar with ERP manufacturing systems and MRP; especially SAP.
  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kanban Systems, Engineering and Tooling processes.

Must be able to be CGP Cleared as a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.

This position requires access to export-controlled information or items (i.e. regulated technology or technical data per ITAR/EAR US regulations). Applicants must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.

Eligible to be certified to examine, possess, and transfer items under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and legally authorized to work in Canada.
