About University Business Services

UBS, a division of the Office of the Vice President Operations and Administration, provides services supporting the university’s academic mission, including Campus Store, Duplicating and Printing, Parking, OneCard, Food Services, Events, and Space Reservation, and the Urban Farm.

The Opportunity

The Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients for menu items as directed by the Chef for retail kitchens, catering, or student residences. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Safe operation of kitchen equipment
  • Maintaining clean and organized work stations
  • Following food safety standards
  • Collaborating with team members

Responsibilities

  • Preparing food orders and menu items for retail, residence, and catering, adhering to standards
  • Assisting in food prep and maintaining work areas
  • Supporting local sourcing and sustainability initiatives

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum six months’ experience in food production, including from-scratch cooking
  • Food Handler’s and Smart Serve certifications are assets
  • Experience with retail or catering food prep (sandwiches, hot items, salads, baked goods, etc.)
  • Familiarity with kitchen maintenance and equipment
  • Ability to work with standardized recipes and basic math
  • Good communication skills for customer interaction
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and as part of a team
  • Interpersonal skills and tactfulness for client service
  • Comfort working in conditions with heat, fumes, noise, and minor hazards
