Job description

Design made simple for the modern home. Our passion lies in furniture and design, and it is the fuel that drives our business. We are a family-run company and aim to maintain this as we continue to rapidly grow. We’re entrepreneurial. We challenge the status quo, aren’t afraid to try new ideas, and we leverage our agile structure to make smart decisions and find new opportunities.

We’re a people-first company and what we do wouldn’t be possible without our customers. For this reason, we like to say that our collections are always customer curated. Join our flexible work culture and team of creative and passionate individuals.

Reporting directly to the Product Development & Sourcing Manager, the Product Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring consistent, durable, and well-constructed furniture across our global supplier base. This role owns product quality from early design review through production and shipment, while establishing and maintaining company-wide quality standards and specifications. The Product Quality Manager leads a small team of Asia-based quality staff, oversees third-party in-country QC representatives, and works closely with internal teams and factory partners to drive continuous quality improvement.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain company-wide quality standards and specifications for furniture construction and materials, including hardware, construction methods, joinery, tolerances, and material requirements.
  • Establish clear, practical, and repeatable quality guidelines for use by factories, internal product and sourcing teams, and Asia-based quality staff.
  • Continuously refine quality standards based on defect rates, field issues, product performance, and learnings from production.
  • Oversee testing protocols and verify results against established specifications to ensure products meet applicable regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Partner with the Product Development team to review product designs and construction drawings before sample production, identifying potential quality, durability, construction, and safety risks early in the development process.
  • Recommend practical alternatives and work collaboratively with internal teams and factories to resolve identified issues before samples are produced.
  • Conduct detailed quality assessments of product samples, either in person or virtually, evaluating durability, construction integrity, functionality, and finish against company standards.
  • Approve samples for production or identify required revisions before approval.
  • Review packaging design and execution to help prevent product damage during shipping and handling, partnering with factories to address recurring packaging and transit issues.
  • Oversee the accuracy and completeness of final quality control reports for production orders and ensure documentation accurately reflects production quality and compliance with established standards.
  • Investigate products with high incidence or defect rates and lead root-cause analysis in collaboration with factories and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address recurring issues and drive long-term product and supplier quality improvement.
  • Serve as the primary product owner for Qarma, overseeing system configuration, workflows, and data standards to support end-to-end quality processes.
  • Drive effective and consistent use of Qarma across Asia-based quality teams, internal stakeholders, and factory partners, as applicable.
  • Continuously improve Qarma data quality, reporting, and system usage to support issue tracking, root-cause analysis, supplier performance management, quality trend visibility, and decision-making.
  • Act as the liaison between internal users, factories, and the Qarma software provider to define requirements, drive enhancements, and resolve system-related issues.
  • Manage and support a small team of quality staff based in Asia, providing direction, training, and accountability for day-to-day quality operations.
  • Oversee third-party in-country QC representatives and ensure inspection activities and reporting align with company quality expectations.
  • Coordinate remote quality oversight with on-the-ground execution across the supplier network.
  • Work cross-functionally with North America-based teams, Asia-based staff, and factory suppliers, serving as a key quality partner throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Balance hands-on technical quality work with broader quality systems, supplier performance, and team leadership responsibilities.
  • Travel internationally, primarily to Asia, for factory visits, audits, sample reviews, and other quality-related activities as required, approximately 20% of the time.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in quality assurance, manufacturing, sourcing, or a related function within the furniture or hardlines industry, including experience working across international supplier networks.
  • Strong working knowledge of furniture construction methods, joinery, hardware, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, documenting, and maintaining quality standards, specifications, or testing protocols.
  • Experience identifying product quality and durability risks during design and development, prior to production.
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes, inspections, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience working with quality management systems; experience with Qarma is an asset.
  • Previous experience managing or leading a team, including remote or geographically distributed staff.
  • Ability to work effectively across functions, cultures, time zones, and international supplier relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate quality data and recurring issues into practical improvements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to establish expectations and communicate technical quality requirements to both internal and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple products, suppliers, and quality priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required, approximately 20% of the time.
