Join to apply for the Product Owner - HR role at Humi

Are you an experienced Product Owner who loves the pace of global startups and is looking for your next challenge or opportunity?

We're looking for a passionate individual to join our Canadian Product Team as a Product Owner. You will make an immediate impact by building products to support our business's rapid growth. You will guide an HR-focused squad through the development of complex features, work with others to prioritize the right things and ensure we are shipping high quality products that delight our users. You will work closely with a team of engineers, designers, and marketers, as well as customers, to define, build, and deliver mission-critical initiatives.

You should be a team player, natural leader, and consistent influencer in regards to the "how" and the "what" of your area of focus. You will constantly strive for domain expertise by immersing yourself in the payroll domain.

Who are we?

Humi is the Canadian employment platform. We help Canadian businesses be better employers. Founded in 2016, Humi started as a simple cloud-based web app that stored employee data. Thanks to the support of customers, Humi has built solutions that allow Canadian businesses to manage employee information, onboarding, performance, time off, employee benefits, and payroll.

We've officially joined Employment Hero to accelerate our vision and support their mission to make employment easier and more valuable, for everyone! Since Employment Hero's inception in 2014, we've had some pretty impressive growth (100% YoY), reached unicorn status in 2022, and now serve 400,000 businesses globally, with 2.9 million+ users on the platform. We have no plans to slow down.

We believe in distributed employment and take a ‘Remote First' approach with our team. This position can be done 100% remotely from anywhere within Canada.

There's never been a more exciting time to join one of the fastest-growing SaaS unicorns, so let's see if we could be a match!

What will you be doing as a Product Owner?

This role will be focused on the HR/Benefits/Recruiting/Time-tracking/Time Off aspect of our product, specifically building the infrastructure and feature set to support small and medium-sized businesses. We offer an all-in-one solution with a hub-and-spoke modular product.

  • Be responsible for product delivery, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and cross-functional coordination
  • Define the scope of development for new product features and ongoing feature enhancements
  • Write and prioritize epics, user stories, and define acceptance criteria
  • Establish and maintain a high level of credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leverage your analytical ability to back your decisions with data
  • Effectively use data and analytics layered against high-quality user research to inform the direction of the product line
  • Be responsible for tracking progress, assessing risks, coordinating delivery, and actively communicating contingency and mitigation plans for the team
  • You will run various ad-hoc research and business analyses to assess opportunities and risks

What are we looking for in a Product Owner?

  • 3+ years of Product Management experience with a SaaS product
  • Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to articulate ideas to cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented with a high bar for quality when writing PRDs, user stories, reviewing designs, brainstorming technical approaches, and testing a feature before it is released
  • Be humble, willing to learn, and do whatever is needed to help your team members accomplish the team goals
  • Experience using agile development methodologies with globally distributed teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • World-class individual contributor and team player to thrive at Employment Hero
  • Financial and accounting math knowledge or a sophisticated understanding of the digital finance space
  • Ability to influence others through leadership and strong communication skills
  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced and pivot in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to analyze data as well as conduct research through various discussions with customers and teammates
  • Completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or equivalent experience

Bonus points if you have experience with:

  • Workplace experience leveraging AI in Product Management to boost productivity as an individual contributor
  • You have a passion for the HR tech space
  • You've worked in a cross-functional team previously where you and your squad took ownership of the success of an area of focus

In short, you'll love working with us if:

  • Revolutionizing employment gets your heart racing
  • You thrive on the flexibility (and responsibility) of a remote-first business
  • Our values align, and shape how you show up every day
  • You love the dynamic pace of a startup, are driven by innovation, and enjoy working with other smart people

Plus, you'll get to enjoy a number of great perks, including:

  • A generous budget for your home office
  • Remote First - Work 100% remotely from anywhere within Canada
  • Cutting-edge tools and technology
  • Reward and recognition programs - because great work should be recognized and rewarded
  • Employee Share Option Program: be an owner of Employment Hero
  • Annual Global Gathering - so far we've been to Thailand, Vietnam, Bali and are excited to meet in Dubai in September 2025
