Job summary

Colonial Group in Vaughan, Ontario, is seeking an HVAC Design Engineer to support design and testing of equipment and systems. You will use SolidWorks and other engineering tools to optimize performance, prepare drawings and BOMs, and collaborate with manufacturing, contractors, and clients.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and 1–2 years of experience, with strong communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a Mechanical Engineering Technology program.
  • 1–2 years of experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Design and test HVAC equipment and systems using SolidWorks and other engineering software tools.
  • Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to optimize system performance, efficiency, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation for HVAC projects.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams, engineers, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to HVAC systems.
  • Provide service support to existing clients by addressing inquiries and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Stay current with trends and advancements in HVAC technology and engineering.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or completion of a Mechanical Engineering Technology program.
  • A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience is requried.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant design tools.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, codes, standards, and testing related to HVAC systems; familiarity with electrical and controls is an asset.
  • Previous experience with sheet metal manufacturing processes is considered an asset.
  • Experience with MRP or ERP systems is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong problem solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
