Job summary

Summit Search Group has partnered with our client on the recruitment of a Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer. The role focuses on sustainable design and carbon reduction, with experience in high-performance mechanical systems, geothermal, solar, and biomass heating.

You will lead design from inception through planning, design, and construction, manage multiple projects, mentor staff, and ensure on-time delivery while coordinating with other disciplines and contractors.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Experience in HVAC or mechanical consulting.
• Expertise with Revit and BIM, including family development and point clouds.
• Energy modeling experience using HAP or Trace 3D.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Experience in a team-based environment.
• Site investigations experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day engineering project elements across multiple projects.
• Mentor intermediate and junior team members.
• Assess building heating and cooling, size equipment, and conduct site reviews.
• Design mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial buildings.
• Contribute to energy modeling and carbon impact reporting.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure drawing integrity.
• Provide technical and administrative support through all project phases.
• Collaborate with contractors and respond to technical inquiries.
• Assist PM with project documentation and schematics.
• Ensure on-time project completion.
• Review architectural, structural, and electrical drawings.
• Deliver high-quality designs to clients.
• Measure project performance with appropriate tools.
• Overtime as required.

Summit Search Group has partnered with our client on the recruitment of a Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer. Our client is passionate about sustainable design and carbon reduction initiatives; they have extensive experience in high performance mechanical systems as well as the practical, cost effective application of renewable resources such as geothermal heating & cooling, solar (PV) and biomass heating.

The Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer they are seeking is a creative, hard-working individual who is driven to advance their skill set in a dynamic and innovative environment. The successful candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude, and an ability to execute design standards effectively. As a Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and management of assigned project work during all phases, from inception through planning, design, and construction, in accordance with the project scope, schedule and budget.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing the day-to-day the engineering related project elements, simultaneously manage multiple projects in different stages.
• Working with and mentoring intermediate and junior team members as needed.
• Understanding and evaluate building heating and cooling, size and select equipment, and conduct construction site reviews.
• Design mechanical and plumbing systems for commercial buildings.
• Understanding of energy modeling software and report writing for building energy and carbon impact analysis.
• Coordinate with other consulting disciplines to ensure drawing integrity and completeness.
• Provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
• Work with contractors and respond to technical inquiries.
• Assist project manager with the creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation and schematics.
• Work with project team and Project Manager to ensure on-time project completion.
• Review architectural, structural, and electrical drawings.
• Provide detailed, high quality and timely designs of finished products to clients.
• Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Compensated overtime as required

Qualifications:

• Completion of post-secondary education in a related field such as Mechanical
• Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Building Systems Technology.
• Work experience in HVAC or Mechanical Consulting
• Expertise and Background using Revit and BIM. Including family development, add-ins, and integration of point clouds.
• Expertise in energy modelling using HAP or Trace 3D. Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools including Excel and Word.
• Experience working with customers and client base.
• Experience working in a team-based environment.
• Experience in site investigations and construction review is considered an asset.
