Job description

Design the difference between a change noticed early and one noticed too late.

At Pontosense, we transform everyday spaces into intelligent, supportive environments using contactless sensing to understand what’s happening around us — quietly, respectfully, and without intrusion. No cameras. No microphones. No wearables. Our technology safeguards independence, preserves dignity, and gives care providers confidence that the people they support are safe.

Care is short-staffed almost everywhere. The people who run home care agencies and senior living communities are responsible for far more residents and clients than anyone can check on personally, so they decide who needs attention from a screen — between other tasks, at the start of a shift that is already behind. Our sensing tells them what changed. Whether they can act on it comes down entirely to how it is presented.

That is the problem this role owns. Get it right and someone notices a change in condition on a Tuesday morning instead of the following week, and an older adult stays independent a while longer. Get it wrong and the data is noise on a dashboard nobody trusts — which, in this market, is the same as having no product at all.

As our Product Designer, you’ll own our B2B platform end to end: the flows, the information hierarchy, the interaction states, and the visual system. It’s used in more than 20 countries by home care owners, senior living operators, care coordinators, and nurses — several roles, different permissions, different reasons for logging in. It is operational, data-dense, and has real accessibility gaps to close. This is a full-ownership role, not a ticket queue: you’ll decide what good looks like here, and very little of it has been decided yet.

What you’ll do:
Product Design Ownership
  • Understand customer needs, user roles, and operational workflows through interviews, feedback, and product data.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear, efficient, and scalable product experiences.
  • Identify common needs across customers while avoiding unnecessary customer-specific customization.
  • Design user journeys, information architecture, workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and final UI.
  • Design dashboards, settings, administration tools, and reports for a range of roles, permissions, and account structures.
  • Cover the unglamorous states — loading, partial, error, empty — as carefully as the happy path.
  • Own both the UX and the UI of your surfaces independently, with minimal day-to-day oversight.
Craft & Design System
  • Own the visual specification: colour, contrast, typography, and component states.
  • Bring the platform up to WCAG 2.1 AA and keep it there.
  • Maintain and evolve the design system so decisions compound instead of being re-litigated every sprint.
  • Run UX and visual quality reviews so that what ships matches what was specified.
Research & Collaboration
  • Conduct usability testing and improve designs based on customer and internal feedback.
  • Partner with Product Management to turn requirements and business rules into intuitive experiences.
  • Work with Engineering to ensure designs are feasible and implemented correctly.
  • Make sensing data legible to people who are not technical and do not have time to study a screen.
  • Improve existing features based on usability issues, customer feedback, and product data.
  • Bring design decisions forward with the reasoning behind them, not just the deliverable.
Who you’ll work with:

This role reports directly to our Chief Operating Officer, Muxin. Day to day, you’ll partner closely with Mia, our B2B Product Manager, and with our engineering team. You’ll also have a counterpart Product Designer on our consumer product line — owning B2B end to end is what lets each of you go deep instead of splitting attention across both.

What you bring:
  • 3+ years of full-time product design experience in enterprise or B2B SaaS products.
  • A portfolio demonstrating both interaction and flow design and visual UI craft.
  • Proficiency with Figma for wireframes, flows, prototypes, and component states.
  • Experience designing data-dense or state-heavy interfaces such as dashboards and administration tools.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA and experience fixing real accessibility issues, not just reading the spec.
  • Experience conducting or contributing to user research: usability testing, interviews, or survey analysis.
  • Clear communication — able to explain design reasoning to product and engineering stakeholders.
  • Based in Ontario, Canada, and able to work in our hybrid environment. No sponsorship required.
Bonus points for:
  • Familiarity with healthcare or another regulated, trust-sensitive domain.
  • Familiarity with sensor data or time-series visualization.
You’ll do well if you:
  • Take ownership of a product and bring structure to ambiguity, rather than waiting for a fully specified brief.
  • Can hold complexity in your head — roles, permissions, states, edge cases — and still ship something that reads in seconds.
  • Treat accessibility as part of design quality rather than a box to tick at the end.
  • Explain your reasoning, not just your output, and change your mind when the research says so.
  • Enjoy sitting close to engineering and seeing your specification survive contact with production.
  • Thrive in fast-moving environments where priorities evolve and creative problem-solving is essential.
It’s not you, it’s us – you won’t fit in if you:
  • Prefer predictable environments with rigid routines.
  • Want a pixel-execution role where requirements arrive fully defined.
  • Are uncomfortable presenting and defending design decisions to product, engineering, and leadership.
  • Would rather make things look beautiful than make them work under pressure.

We believe everyone is capable. Finding the right fit between the company, the role, and the culture is key to your happiness and success.

Company advantages:
  • Join an exciting, innovative, fast-paced technology start-up disrupting the industry.
  • Be part of a small, tight-knit team where you are encouraged to be creative and take risks and your contributions make a huge impact.
  • Competitive salary and benefits for full-time employees that include comprehensive health benefits, 15 days of vacation, and a hybrid work environment.
  • Work directly with our COO and our Product Manager on product decisions, with no layers between you and the call being made.
Why Join Pontosense
  • Be part of a mission-driven company reshaping the future of wellness technology.
  • Work with a global team of innovators passionate about improving lives through intelligent sensing.
  • Own an entire product line’s design, on a product used by care businesses in more than 20 countries.
  • Competitive compensation and performance-based growth opportunities.
  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits.
  • Flexible, hybrid work environment that values autonomy.
