This is a full-time permanent opportunity based in Halifax that requires on-site presence.

Your role

CBC Nova Scotia is looking for a Producer to help lead our Visual Storytelling efforts across all platforms.

As a Visual Storytelling producer your job would be multi-faceted with a particular focus on line up duties for CBC Nova Scotia News at 6 and producing the 30 minute late video newscast. You would also be responsible to support the production of individual videos for our website, YouTube channel and the CBC Nova Scotia streaming channel.

In addition to vetting scripts, writing program continuity, editing video and creating graphics, the producer will take an active interest in the overall content, texture and production values of the programs and how video is represented on our digital platforms and social channels.

Reporting to the Executive Producer, the successful candidate will be a key member of CBC Nova Scotia’s video unit, tasked with planning, creating and distributing compelling visual content to CBC’s digital, social, streaming and television platforms in their current state while helping plan for the future of visual storytelling in Nova Scotia.

You will be an editorial leader in the newsroom and a champion for innovative visual storytelling content, advocating for the creative use of video, still images, graphics and other visual storytelling techniques.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with experience and knowledge of digital, broadcast and social media strategies, an understanding of how audiences consume content across platforms and a desire to experiment with new forms of storytelling.

You are a critical thinker who is solutions-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Minimum five years recent experience in a multi-platform news environment.
  • Strong journalistic skills.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of inclusive and visual storytelling.
  • Substantial experience vetting, editing, fact-checking and packaging digital and video content in compelling and innovative ways.
  • Strong ability to produce a variety of program formats and experience in field production.
  • Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information and ensure material is directed appropriately.
  • Excellent broadcast writing skills.
  • Ability to adapt to ongoing technical demands such as editing, assisting with daily line up, using graphics for story treatments and a sound knowledge of field gathering tools and application.
  • Ability to incorporate breaking news into a live broadcast.
  • Ability to balance the big picture creative thinking with the “daily grind” of producing a daily television program. This is a very hands-on position.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team player.
