Job summary

Bell Media's CP24/CTV Toronto is seeking a dynamic, experienced news producer for a fast-paced, multi-platform environment. You will identify stories, guide live coverage, and ensure the latest developments are delivered with accuracy and editorial excellence.

You will oversee on-air output during assigned shifts, vet scripts and banners, lead a team, and collaborate with editors to shape daily editorial direction.

Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
• Excellent knowledge of news & current affairs.

Responsibilities

• Identify, build, element & execute the on-air output of CP24/CTV Toronto during specified periods of the broadcast day.
• Generate original story ideas for execution.
• Determine the daily editorial direction & execution of coverage.
• Collaborate with & assign editorial team members to define & execute content & coverage.
• Ensure CP24/CTV Toronto is delivering the latest developments in major news stories in the GTHA, while covering breaking news quickly & accurately.
• Vet scripts, video, audio, & banners.
• Ensure accuracy, consistency & adherence to CTV News standards of all material.
• Responsible for taking live events to air & participate in future planning for major events.
• Monitor wires, social media, e-mail & all other outlets for news updates or story ideas.
• Participate in news editorial meetings.
• Keep on top of news broadcasting trends on all platforms.
• Evening and weekend shifts as assigned.

Summary

CP24/CTV Toronto is looking for a dynamic, experienced news producer, who is excited about delivering content in a fast-paced, multi-platform environment & thrives in a breaking news situation. As Toronto’s #1 breaking news channel, CP24/CTV Toronto is leading the charge in delivering breaking news & informing residents of the GTHA about what matters to them.

Identifying stories, generating enterprising news content, knowing how to element broadcast stories, lining up, producing & executing live television coverage, writing quickly & accurately are essential to the position, as is strong news judgement & the highest journalistic standards.

Key Responsibilities

Critical Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
• Excellent skills & extensive experience as a live control room producer.
• Experience in managing news coverage.
• Experience in developing & structuring news coverage.
• Experience in vetting scripts.
• Superior news judgement & broadcast writing skills, as well as knowledge of digital writing.
• Excellent knowledge of news & current affairs.
• Must have excellent command of the English language.
• Excellent decision-making & organizational skills, ability to prioritize, multi-task & meet strict deadlines, while maintaining strong editorial judgement & creativity.
• Excellent communication skills – oral & written.
• Ability to lead a team, motivate staff & personally set the highest professional standards.

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
