Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Procurement Specialist based in Canada.

The Procurement Specialist will support strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, and contract manufacturing operations within a dynamic, cross-functional environment. This role combines procurement execution, cost analysis, and supplier performance monitoring to help ensure reliable supply, operational efficiency, and cost-effective purchasing decisions. Working closely with internal teams and external manufacturing partners, the specialist will contribute to sourcing raw materials and bulk flower products for domestic and international markets. The position also involves tracking production schedules, evaluating supplier and manufacturing performance, and identifying opportunities for savings and process improvement. Through data-driven insights, accurate reporting, and proactive risk management, the successful candidate will help strengthen supply chain performance and support business objectives. This is a full-time remote opportunity based in Ontario, suited to an analytical and collaborative procurement professional.

Accountabilities
  • Procurement and sourcing: Support the sourcing and purchasing of raw materials, active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) components, packaging, and bulk flower products for domestic and international markets.

  • Supplier relationship management: Assist with supplier selection, qualification, onboarding, performance monitoring, and issue resolution while maintaining productive supplier relationships.

  • Purchasing analysis: Analyze purchasing data, supplier pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities (MOQs), and spending trends to identify cost-saving opportunities, supplier consolidation options, and process improvements.

  • Purchase order coordination: Monitor purchase orders, delivery schedules, pricing, and supplier commitments, ensuring accurate and up-to-date purchasing, contract, and order-tracking information.

  • Negotiation support: Prepare spend analyses, market comparisons, cost models, and supporting documentation to facilitate supplier negotiations and informed purchasing decisions.

  • Contract manufacturing management: Support relationships with Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) and external manufacturing partners, tracking production plans, manufacturing capacity, lead times, costs, material requirements, and shipment schedules.

  • Performance monitoring: Evaluate supplier and CMO performance against agreed service levels, budgets, quality standards, and delivery commitments, identifying and escalating potential supply, capacity, cost, or delivery risks.

  • Reporting and forecasting: Track key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time delivery, cost variance, purchase price variance, supplier performance, and CMO utilization. Maintain forecasts and scenario analyses to support supply chain planning.

  • Contract and commercial support: Assist with CMO onboarding, business reviews, contract updates, contract documentation, and commercial negotiations.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Finance, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to support demand and supply planning and ensure business requirements are met.

Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related discipline.

  • 3–5 years of procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing, agriculture, or a similar operational environment.

  • Experience sourcing raw materials, packaging, ingredients, API components, or manufactured products.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage supplier relationships, including onboarding, performance management, and issue resolution.

  • Experience supporting domestic and international procurement activities.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess expenditure, supplier pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, and cost-reduction opportunities.

  • Experience supporting supplier negotiations through spend analysis, market research, pricing comparisons, and cost modeling.

  • Knowledge of purchase order management, inventory replenishment, delivery scheduling, and contract administration.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems and strong Microsoft Excel skills, particularly for analyzing data, monitoring KPIs, and preparing reports.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and coordinate effectively across departments.

  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving, risk identification, and continuous improvement.
