Process Engineer Specialist

Location: Calgary, AB

Salary Range: $76,000 to $91,000

Responsibilities:
  1. The process engineer supervises and oversees:
  2. The initial manufacturing (demonstrators, prototypes) with Product Engineering department.
  3. The industrialization of new products to meet quality, cost, and deadline targets.
  4. Continuous improvement of production processes, tools, and means for existing products using Lean approaches.
  5. New Product Introduction:
  • Participate in project risk analysis for manufacturing feedback.
  • Participate in design review with Product Engineering to consider industrial constraints.
  • Lead Design For Manufacturing (DFm) and Design For Test (DFt), including DFMEA and pilot PFMEA.
  • Develop manufacturing strategies: flow charts, make-or-buy studies, validation plans, VSM diagrams, etc.
  • Define assembly times for sub-assemblies and products.
  • Participate in the design and validation of tools and jigs, considering HSE and ergonomic constraints.
  • Pilot the design, implementation, and qualification of new production lines.
  • Prepare technical specifications and investment requests for new equipment.
  • Develop and improve process engineering documentation: BOM, process flow, control sheets, work instructions.
  • Analyze and lead actions for ramp-up of production capacity, productivity, and skillsets.
  • Continuous improvement and manufacturing support:
    • Identify improvement actions with ROI and budget considerations.
    • Enhance processes, tools, and means to improve safety, capacity, and productivity.
    • Work with teams on SKF Production System tools like 5S, preventive maintenance, lean layout.
    • Create production documentation: process flows, work instructions, maintenance guides, calibration processes.
    • Facilitate lean workshops and support process standardization and documentation optimization.
    • Support escalation systems by participating in daily meetings and resolving process, tool, and production issues.
    Qualifications:
    • Mechanical engineer with electromechanics/mechatronics skills, 3-5 years experience in low-volume production.
    • Knowledge in mechanics, materials, industrial file management, process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TOC).
    • Experience with 5S, Daily Management, problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, PDCA), Value Stream Mapping, tool design, 3D modeling, ergonomic and safety standards, manufacturing processes.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. Ability to multitask and be flexible.
