Job summary

Creation Technologies in Vancouver, BC, is seeking an Engineering 2 to help design, configure and optimize manufacturing processes for CCAs and box assemblies. The role sits within the engineering team and supports process improvements under Engineering Management.

You will work on prototypes, document procedures, troubleshoot equipment, and mentor interns and junior engineers while helping to achieve quality and efficiency goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechatronic, or related field).
  • Up to 7 years of engineering experience in electronics manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents such as wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001/13485 or AS9100 quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and readiness of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling.
  • Understand electronics principles and EMS processes.
  • Execute standard and prototype engineering projects meeting customer specs and quality standards.
  • Document manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment for electronic manufacturing to minimize downtime.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and RCA/education.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Engineering 2 is a core role at Creation Technologies, focused on executing moderately complex to complex engineering tasks required in the creation, configuration and optimization of industrial processes required to produce and/or test Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs) and/or box assemblies. This intermediate-level engineering position is crucial for those continuing their career in electronics manufacturing services, providing an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting while deepening several areas of subject matter expertise while adhering to industry standards and practices. This role executes engineering activities within the engineering team with the support of Engineering Management, combining hands-on experience with professional growth and a pathway for further career in advancement in the field.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports to Process Engineering Team Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Engages in the setup and process readiness of manufacturing processes, including equipment & tooling, while ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety standards.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of electronics principles and manufacturing services processes.
  • Executes standard engineering projects and tasks, including prototype projects, and performs technical work within the engineering team, ensuring compliance with quality standards and that products meet customer required specifications and standards. Deals with complex escalated issues as necessary.
  • Engages in the documentation of manufacturing processes and procedures, ensuring accurate records and adherence to protocols.
  • Maintains and/or troubleshoots the equipment, tools and tooling necessary for electronic manufacturing processes, minimizing downtime, and maintaining production efficiency. Works with other business functions as required.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs products, as required
  • Works effectively within the engineering team, other functions, and 3rd party partners, communicating technical information clearly and contributing to operational goals.
  • Supports and drives continuous improvement / productivity improvement efforts on existing processes and in new process development.
  • Performs root cause corrective and preventive actions as required.
  • Provides guidance to interns, and/or technicians, and/or junior engineers as needed.
Process Engineering Specific:
  • Executes process engineering tasks and activities with the support of Process Engineering management.
  • Applies specific knowledge of several of the PCBA and/or box build process, including but not limited to: SMT equipment, tooling, materials, and processes; Auto insertion, solder flow processes and cleaning processes; Automated labelling, marking, conformal coating, potting and manual/auto assembly; Box build manufacturing techniques.
  • Implements, qualifies, and validates new process technologies and equipment, ensuring seamless integration into production.
  • Executes the validation of process changes, documenting outcomes and adjusting procedures as necessary.
  • Performs Design for Manufacture / Assembly analysis with cross functional teams and customers.
  • Monitors and drives key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes data to identify and resolve systemic process and performance issues as needed.
  • Performs and drives continuous improvement initiatives for process optimization, cost reduction, and enhanced yield and quality.
  • Participates in and drives in the research and evaluation of new process technologies and materials to enhance production capabilities.
  • Provides technical training and support to manufacturing trainers or personnel to improve overall capabilities and knowledge as needed.
  • Supports PCBA & box-build production, as required.
  • Documents and maintains equipment, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective, and aligned with product specifications. Uses and updates, including tasks and schedules, the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Contributes to the CapEx Roadmap for the Site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Required Experience

Bachelor's Degree (4 year) in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Mechatronic, or other relevant discipline) or a related field with a focus on electronics and manufacturing processes or equivalent industry or military training experience.

Up to 7 years of engineering experience in electronics manufacturing preferred.

Skills Required
  • Ability to interpret most technical documents such as wiring diagrams and drawings effectively.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards such as ISO9001/13485 or AS9100.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of New Product Introduction and how to execute projects including supporting functions.
  • Executes Design for Assembly and Test task
