Process Commissioning Engineer – Water Industry
About the Role:

We are seeking a Process Commissioning Engineer to support the commissioning phase of a high-profile wastewater treatment project within the Southern Water region. This is an excellent opportunity to play a critical role in the delivery of vital infrastructure, ensuring new and refurbished process systems perform to specification. Our client is open to considering Mechanical Commissioning Engineers with a solid understanding of wastewater treatment processes and a proactive, solution-driven mindset.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage the commissioning of process plant systems across wastewater treatment sites.
  2. Interpret P&IDs and commissioning documentation to deliver end-to-end system validation.
  3. Liaise with design, construction, and operational teams to support a seamless handover.
  4. Undertake functional testing, cause & effect testing, and ensure systems meet performance criteria.
  5. Troubleshoot issues related to process performance, instrumentation, and system control.
  6. Provide technical input into design reviews, plant optimisation, and commissioning strategy.
  7. Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health & safety and environmental standards.
Requirements:
  • Background in process, chemical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Previous commissioning experience within wastewater treatment or similar process-heavy environments (e.g., sludge handling, chemical dosing, biological treatment).
  • Strong understanding of water process systems and flow paths.
  • Familiarity with MCCs, instrumentation, pumps, valves, and treatment processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • CSCS or EUSR Water Hygiene card.
