Job summary

Saskatchewan Ltd. is seeking a Probation Officer/Community Youth Worker in La Ronge to deliver services within Community Corrections.

The role involves preparing court reports, risk assessments, and developing case plans while collaborating with community partners for integrated offender management in the community. You will travel, work flexible hours (some evenings), and may receive relocation reimbursement with a 2-year return service commitment.

Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited university or college; or a minimum two-year diploma in behavioural change and related assessment skills (Corrections, Justice, Social Work, Mental Health).
  • Knowledge of addictions, domestic violence, poverty, disabilities, mental health, family relationships, abuse and neglect dynamics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to engage resistant individuals and develop client plans.
  • Willingness to travel, flexible hours; valid driver's license; relocation reimbursement with a 2-year return service commitment.

In this position, you are required to travel and work flexible hours, which sometimes may involve evenings. A valid driver's license is required. If you are relocating for this position, there is the opportunity for relocation reimbursement with a 2-year Promissory Note/Return Service Commitment.

This dynamic role requires that you have a working knowledge of addictions, domestic violence, poverty, disabilities, mental health, family relationships, abuse, and neglect dynamics. Also, excellent written and verbal skills, along with the ability to engage resistant individuals and the ability to accurately assess and develop plans based on client needs, are required.

To qualify, you will possess a degree from an accredited university or college; or a minimum two-year diploma, with a focus on the principles of behavioural change and other assessment skills, this would include Correctional Studies, Justice Studies, Community and Justice Services, Social Work or Mental Health; or meet the grandfathering provisions in accordance with Community Corrections qualifications. If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you must have it assessed against Canadian education standards. You will also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in:

  • Contributing factors of criminal behaviours;
  • Theories and intervention strategies including cognitive behavioural approaches; and,
  • Systemic barriers that affect individuals and communities.
