Job Description

Working with pharmacy personnel, this role involves compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies using standard procedures to deliver comprehensive professional pharmaceutical services in a modern hospital setting. Responsibilities include purchasing, managing continuing education programs, stocking supplies for night shifts, preparing departmental reports, and other tasks to maintain an organized and efficient department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy OR Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in West Virginia (or relevant state) or license eligibility. Licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire; failure to do so may result in employment termination.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience in hospital pharmacy through internship or as a registered pharmacist.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispensing drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical preparations as ordered by physicians.
  • Providing pharmaceutical consultation to doctors and nurses.
  • Questioning prescriptions when necessary.
  • Assisting in purchasing drugs from vendors.
  • Communicating with pharmaceutical sales representatives as needed.
  • Conducting drug checks and inspections on hospital floors.
  • Assisting with IV admixture programs, including order verification and technical advice.
  • Attending hospital meetings related to pharmacy when delegated.
  • Supporting the Pharmacy Quality Assurance program.
  • Assisting with pharmacy floor inspection reports.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands include walking, standing, lifting up to 30 pounds, pushing 50 pounds, and manual dexterity.

Working Environment

The environment characteristics are typical of a hospital pharmacy setting, with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of growth and development and patient needs.
  • Understanding of treatment scope and patient-centered care, including pain management and symptom control.
  • Familiarity with hospital pharmacy laws and computer systems.
  • Competency in patient care assessment across various patient populations.
