Job summary

BMO Financial Group in Montreal is seeking a Private Banking Officer to support Private Bankers in delivering exceptional service to private clients. You will handle client banking requests, process transactions, and collaborate with branch and regional teams to identify needs and referrals.

You will maintain compliance and risk controls while developing client relationships through proactive problem solving and data-driven insights.

Qualifications

• Typically 2–3 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in related field desirable or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of personal (primarily) and commercial credit and non-credit products, monitoring/operational processes and applications.
• Basic knowledge of the Lending Process and supporting policies.
• Basic knowledge of loan and security documentation, including registration and renewal routine.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing new business proposals or presentations to clients/prospects.
• Identifies customer needs and matches with appropriate products or services using relationship selling techniques, including referrals to other BMO employees.
• Identifies and recommends workflow process alternatives that can lead to improved efficiency and service levels.
• Determines client needs and ensures timely and accurate completion of transaction processing.
• Takes ownership of client inquiries/ concerns/ complaints, ensuring timely resolution and referrals as appropriate.
• Maintains knowledge of private banking services and offerings and understanding of business strategy.
• Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.
• Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
• Reviews overdraft and other monitoring reports with Private Banker and actions accordingly.
• Strives to exceed client service standards to maximize relationship retention and growth.
• Develops rapport and credibility with clients.
• Provides timely, accurate service to Private Bankers by completing credit, non-credit, and related activities.
• Adheres to banking, investment and lending regulations and risk guidelines.
• Follows security and due diligence to prevent fraud and money laundering.
• Participates in audits and compliance reviews.
• Identifies and escalates irregularities to management.
• Completes complex tasks within rules and may handle escalations.
• Analyzes issues and determines next steps.
• Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
