Collins Aerospace in Ottawa is a world leader in wireless communications networking with products such as highdatarate HF / VHF / UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for adhoc wireless networks. We are developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and adhoc networking features as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world. We are in need of enthusiastic and creative people and are currently searching for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team. This role is one of an individual contributor working under direction of technical leadership.

What You Will Do

• Functional or technical engineering leadership role interfacing with Customers Business Development and supporting Program Managers.
• Drive pursuits preparation of technical proposals in response to RFIs and RFPs.
• Provide technical direction inline with business goals.
• Interface with customers to determine project requirements.
• Tracks reports and analyzes earned value metrics as required to understand program performance. Is able to recommend staffing and / or schedule adjustments based on these metrics. Reports overall engineering performance to plan as appropriate.
• Works with the program manager and engineering to develop the program execution plan and has primary execution responsibilities to ensure project remains within budget on schedule and meets requirements.
• Considered the customers and Program Managers technical point of contact on medium to high complexity program development.
• May lead medium to high complexity proposal efforts coordinating inputs from various project engineers.
• Able to and may represent the company to the customer in the absence of the Program Manager.
• Ability to travel up to 10%

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
• Canadian Citizenship is required.
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain a government of Canada secret level security clearance.
• Data Communications and networking design and implementation experience required.
• An understanding of the architecture of RF communications systems is required.
• C / C programming experience is required.

Qualifications We Prefer

• A background in design and development of Military and Commercial Avionics Communications platforms / systems is highly desired.
• Understanding of adhoc networking is highly desired.
• Familiarity with encryption and the relationships between cryptographic architectures physical link and networking layers desired.
• Knowledge of Forward Error Correction coding desired.
• Familiarity with datalinkprotocols desired.
• Familiarity with Analysis modeling and simulation desired.
