We are looking for a Principal Engineer focused on developing world-class traffic management capabilities for Affirm.

What You’ll Do

• Set the technical vision and strategy for traffic management, capacity planning, and load testing at Affirm.
• Build and expand traffic management capabilities by applying expertise in retries, circuit breakers, load shedding, and load prioritization.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to understand service load, develop capacity models, and implement load testing frameworks.
• Promote innovative, scalable solutions across the organization.
• Research, prototype, and present new technologies and frameworks.

This role requires an engineer who can convey a clear vision, influence leadership, and lead engineers to impactful results.

What We Look For

• Experience with traffic management, load testing, or capacity planning at large-scale organizations.
• Design and implementation experience in traffic shaping, cluster management, and load shedding systems.
• Track record of leading complex engineering projects.
• Ability to develop and collaborate with staff and senior engineers.
• Leadership skills to mentor engineers early in their careers.
• Attention to detail and strong opinions on technology development.
• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
