About the Role

This is a Principal Power System Engineer role within Envision Energy’s Grid Technology Centre of Excellence. This role will provide the technical expertise, and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to:

  • Interpret and analyze grid codes and grid certification requirements, assess compliance and testing requirements;
  • Assess the products and electrical models’ compliance against the grid codes and requirements for grid connection with a focus on Canada, including USA, and Mexico;
  • Lead and manage complex in-house grid connection studies (Steady State, RMS, EMT, Power Quality & Small signal) for connection of Wind farms, BESS and Hybrid projects;
  • Work with Industry partners and regulatory bodies to drive the future trends and technical requirements in the grid connection space;
  • Provide strategic technical direction and solutions for grid integration.
Responsibilities
  • Execute strategies for the efficient and reliable integration of Envision Energy’s WTG, BESS, and Hydrogen products;
  • Stay informed and steer the evolving grid connection technologies, standards, and regulations.
2. Team Engagement:
  • Use the necessary tools, communication and policies with the aim of streamlining the compliance assessment and grid code analysis for Envision Energy’s products;
  • Work independently as well as support the team in creating a better teamwork environment;
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.
3. Technical Leadership:
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in grid connection, and formulate the roadmap and technology of new products and features.
  • Support addressing complex technical challenges related to on-grid and off-grid projects.
4. Stakeholder Management and Reporting:
  • Collaborate and negotiate with the likes of CSA, NRCan, Provincial System Operators and Energy Regulators and regulatory bodies to support projects;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders involved in grid integration;
  • Customer focus and delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in grid connection technologies and assess their applicability to enhance Envision Energy’s product portfolio and project delivery;
  • Execute strategies for the efficient and reliable integration of Envision Energy’s WTG, BESS, and Hydrogen products;
  • Stay informed and steer the evolving grid connection technologies, standards, and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical power engineering; Ph.D. is desirable;
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in grid connection engineering, Network planning and operation particularly in the renewable energy sector
Required Skills
  • Expert knowledge in power system stability and analysis, and grid codes;
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations;
  • Software Skills Including PowerFactory, PSSe, PSCAD, Python, etc, and comprehensive experience with static and dynamic grid connection studies;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with internal teams and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and address compliance challenges;
