Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Product Manager – Billing & Platform based in Canada. We are looking for an experienced platform product leader to shape the core services that power a growing SaaS product ecosystem, with an initial focus on billing and authentication. You will lead the transition from a legacy billing system to Stripe Billing while modernizing identity, access, and account management capabilities. Your work will help ensure that subscription experiences are reliable, pricing changes are easy to implement, and financial data remains accurate across systems. Working closely with Engineering, Security, Finance, and commercial teams, you will define the strategic roadmap and establish clear standards for successful delivery. As these foundational services mature, you will expand your scope to additional platform capabilities that support business growth. This is an opportunity to influence company-wide product strategy, mentor other product managers, and build infrastructure that enables teams to innovate with confidence.

Accountabilities

As the Principal Product Manager, you will own the vision, roadmap, and strategic direction of essential platform services. You will define product outcomes and success criteria while partnering with engineering teams responsible for implementation.

  • Define the Core Services Roadmap: Establish a multi-year vision for shared platform capabilities, starting with billing and identity. Determine priorities, sequencing, expected behaviors, and acceptance criteria for services used across multiple products.
  • Lead Billing and Payments Strategy: Own the direction for subscriptions, pricing, plans, trials, upgrades and downgrades, invoicing, payment methods, payment recovery, refunds, chargebacks, and account changes. Make trade-offs explicit and align decisions with business objectives.
  • Drive the Stripe Billing Migration: Lead product strategy for the transition from an internal billing system to Stripe Billing. Define migration phases, success metrics, testing requirements, acceptance criteria, rollback plans, and operational controls to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Simplify Pricing and Entitlements: Make it easier to launch pricing changes, new subscription plans, and add-ons. Ensure that customer payments, product packaging, and access permissions remain aligned across products.
  • Own Identity and Authentication: Set the direction for sign-in, single sign-on (SSO), account access, authentication, and authorization in collaboration with Engineering and Security. Define the account, role, and permission models that support products and partners.
  • Establish Reliable Billing Data: Define the billing data model and establish a consistent source of truth across systems. Enable accurate financial reporting, revenue recognition, and audit reconciliation while partnering with Finance and data teams on reporting requirements.
  • Align Cross-Functional Stakeholders: Act as the product lead for Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Revenue Operations (RevOps), Support, and Sales on billing and identity priorities. Communicate trade-offs clearly and build consensus around delivery plans.
  • Expand Platform Capabilities: Take ownership of additional foundational services as business needs evolve, including entitlements, account structures, partner and reseller billing, and other shared capabilities.
  • Raise Product Management Standards: Mentor fellow product managers, share strategic expertise, and help strengthen product practices across platform teams.
Requirements

The ideal candidate combines deep subscription billing expertise with strong technical judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead complex platform initiatives across multiple teams.

  • Platform Product Leadership: At least 8 years of Product Management experience in SaaS, including 4 or more years focused on billing, payments, or subscription commerce. Experience operating at Staff or Principal level on a platform or core service used by multiple product teams is required.
  • Billing and Payments Expertise: Strong knowledge of subscription lifecycles, trials, upgrades and downgrades, proration, payment recovery, refunds, chargebacks, multiple currencies, and taxation. Hands‑on product experience with Stripe or comparable platforms such as Zuora, Chargebee, Recurly, or Adyen is essential.
  • Identity and Access Knowledge: Understanding of authentication, authorization, SSO, multi‑factor authentication, and role‑based permissions. Previous ownership of an identity platform is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Technical Credibility: Ability to interpret API specifications, trace data across systems, write SQL queries to validate information, and engage confidently with engineers on architecture, estimates, webhooks, retries, data ownership, and rollback strategies.
  • Strategic and Systems Thinking: Ability to identify shared capabilities behind competing product requests, establish a clear point of view, and develop roadmaps spanning quarterly priorities and long‑term objectives. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Migration and Risk Management: Experience delivering a system migration, cutover, or pricing change with meaningful customer and revenue implications. Strong understanding of testing, rollback planning, operational controls, and billing accuracy.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical and commercial decisions to executives, engineers, and customer‑facing teams. Skilled at building alignment across functions.
  • AI Fluency: Regular use of AI tools to support research, data analysis, decision‑making, and productivity.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience migrating from a legacy billing system to Stripe or another modern platform; working with identity technologies such as Okta, OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, or role‑based access control; or building entitlement and feature‑access systems.
  • Additional Advantages: Experience in high‑volume, self‑service small‑business subscription environments, partner or reseller billing, finance systems such as ERP and CPQ, revenue recognition, SOX controls, multi‑product platform teams, or mentoring senior product managers.
Benefits
  • Salary: Annual base salary range of $148,782–$185,977 USD for full‑time employees. The final offer may vary depending on experience, education, and work location.
  • Additional Compensation: Some roles may be eligible for target commission or bonus compensation.
  • Health and Welfare Benefits: A competitive benefits package supporting employee health and well‑being, including paid leave.
  • Paid Time Off: A generous paid time off policy.
  • Flexible Work Environment: A hybrid work model combining remote flexibility with opportunities to collaborate in person, attend live training, and connect with colleagues.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities to expand business knowledge, take on challenging assignments, receive coaching, and pursue career development.
  • Inclusive Culture: A commitment to diversity, inclusion, equal opportunity, and continuous improvement in the workplace.
  • Meaningful Impact: The opportunity to help businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations grow through accessible digital tools and services.
  • Application Deadline: Applications are expected to remain open for 30 days, although the position may be filled earlier.
