Job summary

Arcadis seeks a Principal – Ontario Land Surveyor to lead and oversee its Ontario Land Survey division. You will manage a skilled team of survey technologists and technicians, collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary leaders, and drive growth in the Ontario market.

You will supervise project scopes, budgets, schedules, and safety expectations while ensuring quality deliverables and regulatory compliance. A strong leadership and business development mindset is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Ontario Land Surveyor in good standing with the AOLS and eligible to sign legal surveys.
  • 8+ years of relevant Ontario land surveying experience.
  • History of team leadership in survey projects.
  • Experience developing professional relationships and pursuing new business opportunities (RFPs, proposals).
  • Strong technical skills in subdivision, condominium, boundary retracements, topographic surveys, and easement mapping; knowledge of Ontario regulations.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard surveying software and equipment; familiarity with LiDAR and drones is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert leadership and technical guidance as the lead Ontario Land Surveyor for the region.
  • Plan, direct, and oversee the Geomatics Technical Support Unit's activities and timelines.
  • Contribute to Geomatics policy development, standards, and QA frameworks.
  • Manage projects with client scope, budget, schedule, and safety expectations.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Certify legal surveys and ensure field returns, drawings and plans comply with regulations.
  • Collaborate with Business Unit leaders to grow the Ontario Land Surveying practice.
  • Engage in business development: build relationships, prepare proposals, and pursue new opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop a cohesive technical team committed to high-quality work.

Role accountabilities:


  • Provide expert leadership and technical guidance as the lead Ontario Land surveyor, supporting both staff and broader regional initiatives

  • Plan, direct, and oversee the activities of the Geomatics Technical Support Unit, ensuring responsiveness to evolving priorities and project timelines

  • Offer strategic input on the development of Geomatics policies, standards, and quality assurance frameworks

  • Managing projects including working with clients to establish scope, budget, schedule and safety expectations

  • Oversee projects to ensure they meet the contractual requirements while delivering quality deliverables the meet or exceed our clients' requirements

  • Ensure quality assurance procedures are carried out and ensuring field returns, drawings and legal plans meet regulatory requirements

  • Sign and professionally certifying legal surveys

  • Work with the Business Unit Lead and Business Unit Director to drive growth in Ontario market for the Land Surveying Division of Arcadis

  • Be part of the business development process, building relationships, prepare proposals and explore new business opportunities emerging from the market

  • Build a strong, cohesive technical Team that encourages “best work” in an environment that mentors for personal and professional growth


Qualifications & Experience:


  • Qualified Ontario Land Surveyor, in good standing with the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors with the ability to sign and professionally certify legal surveys. Experience working with compliance with all responsibilities outlined in the AOLS Certificate of Authorization

  • Over 8 years of relevant experience

  • Have a work history that contains team leadership

  • Experience exploring and obtaining new business opportunities through the development of professional relationships with deep business development experience with activities like writing proposals, etc.

  • Strong technical skills related to subdivision, condominium, boundary retracements, topographic surveys, and easement mapping with comprehensive understanding of the relevant legislation and regulatory standards governing land surveying in Ontario

  • Proficient in using industry-standard surveying software and equipment with the ability to integrate emerging technologies (e.g., LiDAR, drones) to enhance survey capabilities and innovation an asset

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Surveying or a related field is advantageous

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $190,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
