Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking a senior Power Systems Engineer to lead generation interconnection studies and complex modeling for ERCOT interconnections. The role requires deep expertise in PSCAD/PSS/E modeling and strong client communications.

Remote work across US/Canada with occasional travel and collaboration with our global energy practice. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in power system studies, demonstrates leadership, and contributes to business development

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer focusing on generation and transmission interconnection.
• Strong understanding of ERCOT interconnection processes from initial filing to commercial operations.
• Experience with EMT studies, model benchmarking, and development of plant models (Solar PV, BESS, Wind, conventional).

Responsibilities

• Lead generation interconnection efforts within the ERCOT footprint as technical expert.
• Identify optimal grid interconnection strategies based on system impacts and capacity.
• Create and validate PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT plant models for multiple resources.
• Mentor junior Power Systems Engineers and represent the company at technical meetings.
• Support business development with scopes of work and proposals.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies to enhance offerings.

Overview

We are designing the grid of the future!

This role leads the delivery of power system generation and merchant transmission interconnection services across ERCOT. Operating with minimal supervision, the position manages complex technical studies, oversees interconnection processes, and guides a team of power system engineers. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in generation interconnection, advanced modeling capabilities, and strong client-fac­ing communication skills. This role is central to shaping interconnection strategy, ensuring high-quality technical analyses, and supporting the growth of the organization’s power systems practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead generation interconnection efforts within the ERCOT footprint, serving as the technical expert for energy resource (generator and load) interconnection processes.


• Identify optimal grid interconnection strategies based on system impacts and grid capacity.


• Perform EMT studies as well as model benchmarking studies in accordance with IEEE, ISO and Utility guidelines.


• Create and validate PSS/E, PSCAD, and TSAT plant models for Solar PV, BESS, Wind, and conventional projects. Serve as subject matter expert on modelling issues and model tuning for these plant models


• Lead and perform advanced large-load power system modeling and dynamic impact studies to assess system performance and interconnection requirements.


• Perform interconnection modeling, due diligence, analysis, and specialized grid studies including Reactive Power Compensation.


• Support business development and prepare scopes of work/proposals.


• Contribute to the organizational knowledge base and develop innovative study approaches.


• Mentor and develop junior Power Systems Engineers.


• Represent EPE at technical meetings and conferences.


• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy industry to enhance the organization's offerings and capabilities.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

• 5+ years professional experience as a Power Systems Engineer supporting generation and transmission interconnection


• Well-versed in the interconnection process of ERCOT from the initial filing of the interconnection application through commercial operations; Other ISOs are a plus.


• PSCAD and PSS/E modeling experience


• Hands-on ERCOT Model Quality Testing (MQT) experience.


• Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.


• Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation


• Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.


• Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.


• Strong customer focus, both internal and external.
