Position Overview
Looking for an opportunity to use your skills and abilities to influence the strategic direction of a major software company? The Research Engineering team of Autodesk Research is hiring a Principal Data Scientist. As a member of the Research Engineering team, you’ll prototype software solutions for strategic research projects, demonstrating innovations for Autodesk products.
You’ll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and domain experts in manufacturing, robotics, architecture, computer vision, machine learning, and generative design. You will apply your data science knowledge and experience in the development of new applications and systems. You’ll advise others to help Autodesk Research as a whole make good decisions related to data science.
You’ll play a key role shepherding “what-if” ideas into tangible proof of concept demonstrations and prototypes. When you identify common data science requirements within Autodesk Research, you’ll help plan and implement solutions to meet them.

Responsibilities
- Find ways to turn Autodesk data and Autodesk customer data into actionable insight.
- Collaborate with the engineering team and other scientists, creating data pipelines to gather various types of data from a variety of systems and extract value.
- Use analytical, statistical, and machine learning techniques to identify patterns and trends in data to uncover insights.
- Recommend and develop algorithms to extract value from data in customer use cases.
- Work with the engineering team to productize the performance metrics and predictive analytics to unlock high value outcomes for our customers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or other quantitative discipline.
- 7+ years of experience working in a global, high technology company.
- Familiarity with statistical and machine learning techniques including hypothesis testing, experimental design, classification, regression, dimension reduction, regularization, clustering, and multivariate methods.
- Experience with data modeling techniques, data ontologies, and defining normalized data models that can be used to produce analytical outcomes.
- Proficiency with data analysis and experience with modern data science toolkits.
- Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies and apply them appropriately with a high level of quality.
- Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills. Able to explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a variety of types of data from a variety of sources.
- Adaptable and comfortable with complexity and uncertainty.
- Self-motivated, creative, and collaborative.
- Experience implementing and deploying data science models or data products.
- Experience developing proof-of-concept and prototype solutions to problems.
- Experience working in AWS or Azure environments and applying their compute and data analytics services.
- Apache Spark, Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLFlow, AWS Sagemaker, R, Matlab, Jupyter, Tableau.
- Masters degree or PhD in a data science discipline.
- Experience with data visualization tools.
- Passionate about insights, not just data.
