Job Description

Hitachi Rail STS seeks an enthusiastic, self-motivated Principal Commissioning Manager who excels in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate handles a range of tasks from administrative to strategic. This role is based in Toronto, Ontario.

Mission: Oversee the commissioning and handover of complex projects (large scale, advanced technological systems, involving international partners) per contract requirements, delivering to the PM (client) for operational use.

Accountabilities include:

  • Managing commissioning of systems such as train signaling (CBTC, Wayside, Onboard, Office Control), SCADA, rolling stock, and power systems.
  • Coordinating with civil and third-party contractors to develop commissioning plans.
  • Reviewing and approving subsystem and system-wide commissioning plans.
  • Integrating commissioning schedules and developing migration plans.
  • Developing and reviewing test procedures for all subsystems.
  • Ensuring adequate resources and managing workload forecasts.
  • Reviewing drawings for constructability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Working directly with customers and subcontractors to execute project phases and system handover.
  • Leading project meetings and managing field verification testing.
  • Performing on-site verification, maintaining inventory, and managing tags and wiring details.
  • Representing STS at joint venture meetings and providing bid/proposal data.
  • Preparing bi-weekly reports on commissioning activities.
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Supporting additional system-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or technical degree in electrical or systems engineering.
  • Professional Engineer licensed in Canada (P.Eng).
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of complex vehicle and system projects.
  • Knowledge of railway construction standards and previous experience with train signaling systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Clear criminal background check.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Languages: English - Proficient
