The role spans from design to deployment, ensuring resilience and scalable architectures across multiple platforms.

• Identify, prioritize and execute high-complexity tasks in the app development lifecycle with quality and speed.

• Develop complex tools and apps in relevant applications (Salesforce, NetSuite, Billing Platform) and languages (Apex, JavaScript, SuiteScript, Python) with integrated apps.
• Build test automation regression suites and coach the team on setting up test automations in Copado.
• Embed and Build AI workflows and agents to realize business value faster.
• Coach and hold vendors accountable to best practices and milestones.
• Automate high-complexity tasks and provide guidance on test automations.
• Analyze and debug systems and perform validation/testing in a TDD approach.
• Be a mentor, review peers, share knowledge, and improve engineering practices.

**Travel to Office expectations**

For Remote Roles: If this role is remote, there will be in-office events that will require travel to and from the Mississauga and/or Salt Lake City office. These will include, but not limited to, onboarding, team events, semi-annual and annual team meetings.

For Hybrid Roles: If this role is Hybrid, there will be an expectation to reside within commutable distance to the office/location specified in the job listing. This will include, but not limited to, weekly/bi-weekly/monthly events in the office with your specific team. This is a requirement for this role.

Job Summary

PointClickCare is searching for a Principal Application Engineer who will lead application development by writing and rigorously defending production-grade application code and configurations on a regular basis, while also encouraging and optimizing the daily execution of technical excellence across the ESA teams. This role requires mastery in all areas of application development from design to implementation, to monitoring best practices while mentoring and coaching other team members and delivering both business and technical objectives through ambiguity, uncertainty and complex situations. The Principal Application Engineer will support strategic transformational projects, complex enhancements and lead root cause analysis for high-complexity incidents, ensuring long-term fixes and system resilience improvements. They will also oversee vendor engagements where necessary to ensure that they deliver quality technical solutions following the best industry-leading engineering practices.

To succeed as a Principal Application Engineer at PointClickCare, you need to be highly creative, accountable, collaborative and passionate. You are the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for core applications like Salesforce, NetSuite, Billing Platform., etc. meaning you have mastered the skills well enough to teach them. You are enthusiastic about jumping in to help achieve the team’s top priorities, no self-promoting politicians allowed. You’re not afraid to dive into uncharted technical territory and get your own hands dirty while supporting and driving delivery of complex features through a dedicated team. What your day-to-day will look like:

• Be the go-to Subject Matter Expert (SME) and internal expert for relevant applications (Salesforce, NetSuite, Billing Platform, etc.) for senior leadership, vendors, business partners and internal team members while staying ahead of emerging trends and advising on best practices

• Identify, prioritize and execute high complexity tasks in the application development life cycle with quality and speed

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives and translate them into scalable technical solutions while driving simplified solution architecture

• Develop complex tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code in the relevant application (Salesforce, NetSuite, Billing Platform, etc.) and languages (Apex, JavaScript, SuiteScript, Python, etc.) and connected or integrated apps like Kantata, Conga, Gainsight, Qualtrics, Gong, TaskRay, Adobe, Quip, etc.

• Build test automation regression suites and coach the broader team on how to set up test automations in Copado

• Embed and Build AI workflows and agents to realize business value delivered faster

• Coach and hold vendors accountable to our best practices and milestone deliverables

• Automate high complexity tasks through appropriate tools and scripting and provide guidance on test automations

• Analyze and debug systems and perform validation and verification testing in a test-driven manner

• Be a coach/mentor for all engineers, including performing peer reviews, leading technical knowledge sharing sessions, establishing engineering best practices, approving pull requests and improving the overall quality of the technical solution

• Take ownership of enterprise-wide initiatives to modernize application architectures, improve system integrations, and reduce technical debt.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to drive standardization of development frameworks, automation tools, and DevOps best practices across the organization

• Exercise independent judgement in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results and solving complex problems

• Champion the adoption of AI and automation tools, leading experimentation and integration of AI agents to optimize development and operational workflows

• Be the back-up for your manager when necessary to oversee the team’s successful delivery

• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications we are looking for:

Bonus points for:

• Solid experience working on a SaaS product

• Deep experience with Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS) or other UI frameworks like React, Vue.js, or Angular

• Deep experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.

• Deep experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and SaaS product development

• Working experience of SAML, OAuth, and OpenID Connect for authentication and authorization

• Working experience of SQL

• Working experience with on-call responsibilities for production-grade systems.

• Solid understanding how to solve the dysfunctions of a team (trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and team results)
