Owl.co in Toronto is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to drive our technical strategy and lead the integration of AI models into scalable, production‑grade features. You will own system architecture for a core platform handling large‑scale unstructured data and complex pipelines.

Join a team with hubs in NYC and Toronto; 5 days onsite. You will mentor engineers, define long‑term roadmaps with Product, and partner across functions to deliver high‑impact insurance technology solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 7+ years of software development experience at staff/principal level in a product-driven environment.
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and scaling AI/ML systems in production.
• Experience with SFT and RL techniques for LLMs and VMs.
• Proficient in Python or TypeScript, with strong coding skills.
• Ability to navigate high ambiguity and communicate architecture to executives.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end system architecture of the core platform, scalable and secure for large-scale unstructured data.
• Lead integration, scale, and maintenance of AI/ML models in production.
• Partner with Product and cross-functional teams to translate business goals into engineering initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and set standards for code quality and system design.
• Tackle challenging latency, inference, and data-pipeline problems.
• Evaluate and adopt new technologies to improve speed and reliability of the tech stack.
