Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services Inc. invites applications for a Primary Care Physician (Baawaating Family Health Team).

This part-time contract position provides physician services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care in an Indigenous community setting. The successful candidate will join an inter-disciplinary team and contribute to health promotion, client education, and culturally safe care for the Batchewana First Nation communities.

Qualifications

• MD with rotating internship from a recognized university.
• Licensed to practice in Ontario with the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
• Experience in primary health care, ideally in Indigenous communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide physician services within an inter-disciplinary team.
• Deliver client-centered primary care and health promotion.

Who we are? We are a leader in First Nation Health. Our foundation is Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and one Indigenous Friendship Centre in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services and health promotion services. We have recently been approved as the first Indigenous lead Ontario Health Team in the province by the Ministry of Health.

The opportunity: Under the direction of the Manager of the Baawaating Family Health Team site, the Primary Care Physician is responsible to provide physician services for Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services Inc. under the department of Comprehensive Primary Health Care. The scope of this service is within an inter-disciplinary team to provide primary care to clients and their families within a client-centered care model emphasizing health promotion and client education.

What you need to bring with you:

• Medical degree and rotating internship from a recognized university.
• License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
• Experience in a primary health care setting, First Nation community based is an asset.
• Knowledge and interest in health issues affecting Indigenous people.
• Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care and resources.
• Must have a valid Ontario Driver's License.
• Must have access to a personal vehicle.
• A clear criminal reference check.
