Job summary

Medavie Health Services West in Central Alberta is seeking a Paramedic for permanent shifts to deliver immediate care and transport to patients in need.

You will operate EMS vehicles, document care, and work with external agencies to support the patient. The role emphasizes safety, professionalism, and patient-centered service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4 required.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP's.
  • CPR certification required.
  • FARE certificate required.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver prompt patient care in accordance with the AOCP guidelines.
  • Safely operate EMS vehicles in line with guidelines and regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in readiness at all times.
  • Document patient care and assessments in the patient care report (ePCR) promptly and legibly.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
  • Follow the MHS-West chain of command.

Education

Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics

The PCP provides immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities. Due to the nature of operating in the public eye, a high level of professionalism, communication, and knowledge is always expected. The paramedic is required to conduct themselves in a safe and discreet manner, with the responsibility of conduct justification to patients, family members, hospitals staff, management, public agencies, legal court, and more. As an employee of MHS, you are accountable to our patients, coworkers, and management by supporting all safety-related initiatives, as well as fostering a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe workplace.

DUTIES AND TASKS
Emergency and Response
  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stocks and maintains vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
  • Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
Communication
  • Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports. (ePCRs)
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to General Manager of MHS - West or designate.
Education
  • Develop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Maintains functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participates actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
Physical Ability
  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients
  • Will need extricate patients from hazardous environments
  • Will advise superintendent of injuries that will impair duties.
Public Relations
  • Actively participates in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West
  • Maintains professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintains hygienic and grooming standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • FARE Certificate required

Salary: $30.74 - $38.79 Hourly as per MHSW Central Alberta Collective Agreement

Apparatus call sign : 1A2/2A2- subject to change

Hours of work: 06:00- 18:00 Days 18:00- 06:00 Nights - subject to change
