Job summary

Chartwell Retirement Residences seeks a Prep Cook to help prepare meals that meet residents’ dietary needs and to provide a home-like dining experience that nourishes both body and spirit.

You’ll support the kitchen team with meal prep, food safety, and cleanliness, and assist with special event food preparation while adhering to safety practices and proper storage procedures.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years in a volume food prep environment, ideally in retirement, long-term care or hospitality.
• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Food Safe Level 1 certificate (Level 2 preferred).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under time constraints.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and attention to detail.
• Team player with strong customer service and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Help prepare and cook meals that meet residents' dietary needs.
• Wash, chop, and prepare ingredients like meats, vegetables, and salads.
• Keep the kitchen clean and organized, including dishes and work surfaces.
• Support special event food preparation to highlight Chartwell’s hospitality.

• Receive and store food and supplies, while completing daily temperature checks for fridges, freezers, and storerooms.

As a Prep Cook at Chartwell, you’ll play an important role in preparing meals that make our residents feel at home. Additional Requirements

• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift, push, and carry items during meal preparation and service
• Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment
• Preparedness to respond to emergency situations in accordance with residence protocols
• Clear Criminal Background Check, VSS and TB Test where required
