Chartwell Retirement Residences in Canada is seeking a Prep Cook to support a busy kitchen team. You will assist with meal preparation, ensure dietary needs are met, and help maintain a clean, organized work environment to deliver comfortable, home-like dining for residents.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years in volume food prep, a Food Safe Level 1 certificate, and strong time-management skills. This role supports hospitality events and safety practices across the kitchen.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in volume food preparation, ideally in retirement, long-term care or hospitality.
• Food Safe Level 1 certificate (Level 2 preferred).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under time constraints.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and attention to detail.

Job Description

As a Prep Cook at Chartwell, you’ll play an important role in preparing meals that make our residents feel at home. By supporting the kitchen team with meal preparation, food safety, and cleanliness, you’ll help provide a dining experience that nourishes both body and spirit.

What You’ll Do

• Help prepare and cook meals that meet residents’ dietary needs
• Wash, chop, and prepare ingredients like meats, vegetables, and salads
• Keep the kitchen clean and organized, including dishes and work surfaces
• Support special event food preparation to highlight Chartwell’s hospitality
• Follow safe food handling, health, and safety practices, and store supplies properly
• Receive and store food and supplies, while completing daily temperature checks for fridges, freezers, and storerooms

What You’ll Bring

• 1–2 years of experience in a volume food preparation environment, ideally in retirement, long-term care, or hospitality
• High school graduate or equivalent education
• Food Safe Level 1 certificate (Level 2 preferred)
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work under time constraints
• Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and attention to detail
• Team player with strong customer service and clear communication skills

Additional Requirements

• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, lift, push, and carry items during meal preparation and service
• Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment
• Preparedness to respond to emergency situations in accordance with residence protocols
• Clear Criminal Background Check, VSS and TB Test where required
