An established healthcare provider is seeking a dedicated Practitioner for Infection Prevention and Control. In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), the Practitioner works with physicians, medical microbiologists, nurses, and various departments within Island Health to provide surveillance and consultation related to infectious and communicable disease prevention and control in acute care, long-term care homes, and community settings. The role includes developing Infection Prevention and Control policies based on best practice literature and implementing standards in compliance with legislation. The Practitioner also develops and provides education on all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control.
This position offers consultation to departments, healthcare providers, physicians, and surgeons, including participation in quality councils to report on issues and identify quality improvement opportunities. The Practitioner advises facility planners on construction impacts on IPAC practices and guides staff on barrier precautions and other prevention principles during outbreaks. Using continuous quality improvement methodologies and epidemiological principles, the position covers health service, education, and research functions across Island Health. The role includes 24-hour shared on-call responsibilities.
Note: Candidates must have completed an IPAC Canada-sponsored or endorsed IPAC course. This position supports Long Term Care sites in Victoria and surrounding areas.
