Job summary

Trillium Health Partners is seeking a Clinical Informatics Practice Leader to guide the hospital information systems design, build, implementation and evaluation with an emphasis on patient safety and care quality. You will lead interprofessional teams, contribute to TPHC’s Plan to 2030, and champion evidence‑based clinical informatics concepts across the organization.

The role requires strong clinical background, change leadership and expertise in health informatics.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated change leadership experience in practice or process harmonization.
  • Systems understanding of workflows and HIS.
  • Experience in clinical informatics or knowledge of Epic is an asset.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or allied health informatics preferred.
  • LEAN/Human Centered Design certification preferred.

The Position

As the clinical interface representing operations, the Clinical Informatics Practice Leader (CIPL) provides leadership and uses clinical experience and expertise to inform, advise, and guide the hospital information system and related technologies design, build, implementation, and evaluation. By integrating leading practices and principles of health informatics, the CIPL will primarily support patient care services and enabling teams by providing an integrated knowledge base of system design and build concepts to support the continuum of care. Serving as a change ambassador and champion, this role leads critical dialogue and knowledge transfer of systems design to inform changes to clinical practice for user efficiency, patient safety and quality of care. This role will play an integral part in defining and assessing clinical informatics competencies and change management needs for uptake in clinical practice as a member of the interprofessional team.

Here’s What You Will Get To Do
  • Be an ambassador of the practice decisions and guiding principles established for HIS.
  • Support the development and revisions of applicable policies and standards of practice to support the correct use of advanced clinical systems in practice.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to support patient outcomes that include modifying system design.
  • Support the adoption of key quality metrics as identified by THP.
  • Assess operational readiness for change and provide recommendations on mitigation strategies when necessary.
  • Use Clinical Informatics methodology and best practices in system requirements gathering, design, build, user acceptance, evaluation and implementation.
  • Apply human factors and ergonomics sciences to the design of systems and devices.
  • Lead and facilitate meetings with senior clinicians, clinical subject matter experts, business and clinical application analysts through project-based work and by developing tools and systems to support end users’ ongoing needs for evidence-based, standards, and data-driven decision making.
  • Use your clinical background and subject matter expert experience to benefit the build and support of the EHR application(s) assigned.
  • Partner with clinical and OneTHP team members in evaluating the current state of technologies, processes and workflows that impact clinical users and provide recommendations that re-engineer business processes to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.
  • Facilitate the documentation of workflows, both current and future, to incorporate evidence-based clinical knowledge into the design of the clinical information system and support platforms/applications.
  • Provide input into implementation, change management, communication and education planning for interprofessional health staff on the integrated use of advanced clinical systems.
  • Provide and apply Project Management and Change Management methodology to projects.
  • Be a change champion and practice transition support leader.
  • Be an active participant in professional practice committees to advance the culture of clinical informatics competency in the organization.
  • Facilitate optimization efforts by leading request triaging and prioritization strategy
What You Need
  • Demonstrated recent change leadership experience involving practice or process harmonization.
  • Demonstrates a systems understanding of the workflows.
  • Minimum 5 years of Clinical experience.
  • Previous experience in clinical informatics is preferred.
  • Good understanding of the HIS is an asset, previous Epic experience is an asset
  • Epic Certification is an asset.
  • Current registration in good standing with a Regulated Health Professions College preferred.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or allied equivalent or health informatics preferred.
  • Knowledge and training in adult education and/or demonstrated skill in teaching/facilitating preferred.
  • LEAN/Human Centered Design certified preferred.
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct supervisory authority.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developing, implementing and revising policies, analyzing workflows, and making departmental or system-wide improvements in practice.
  • Quality improvement motivated.
  • Advanced computer skills required.
  • Demonstrated success in working in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and be results-oriented.
