Long-Term Remote Power Developer Opportunity – Government Client (Winnipeg)

Aplin, in partnership with our government client based in Winnipeg, is seeking an experienced Power Developer for a long-term remote contract. This opportunity begins with a 12-month term, with the potential to extend up to 24 months in total.

About the Role We’re looking for a seasoned developer with a strong background in developing and maintaining business applications. This position will involve working on new application solutions, upgrading legacy systems, and providing ongoing support. Responsibilities include architecture design, development, support, and quality assurance throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate effort and scope for development tasks
  • Validate service requests and recommend solutions
  • Collaborate with architects and internal teams on solution design
  • Define requirements and integrate third-party tools
  • Conduct code reviews and quality assurance testing
  • Develop and maintain application code, architecture, and technical interfaces
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data integrity and system issues
  • Support and enhance existing applications
  • Document system configurations, processes, and maintenance procedures
  • Assist with technical documentation, deployment, and change requests
  • Perform other software development tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years developing, maintaining, and supporting business applications
  • 8+ years of experience with PowerBuilder
  • 3+ years in database design, stored procedure development, and analysis
  • 8+ years enhancing and supporting legacy systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including stored procedures and advanced SQL
  • Experience with source/version control systems (e.g., TFS)
  • Strong understanding of networking, relational databases, and web services
  • Knowledge of .NET, systems integration, and Agile/SDLC methodologies
  • 5+ years developing client-server applications
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and discretion with sensitive data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, AWS, and other cloud platforms
  • Background in web development and object-oriented programming
  • Experience working in large enterprise environments
  • Consulting experience and ability to work independently or in a team
  • Experience migrating PowerBuilder applications
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, design patterns, and database design
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written)
