Job summary

Green Infrastructure Partners is seeking a Power Systems Technician to provide electrical maintenance and field services across utility, industrial, and institutional sites from our Dartmouth, NS office.

The role requires a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with 5+ years of experience, strong schematics literacy, and the ability to travel offshore. You will collaborate with engineers on upgrades and ensure strict safety protocols are followed.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with at least 5 years field experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical principles and power distribution systems.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints and manuals.
  • Experience with protection and control devices in power systems.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Willing to travel offshore and have valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical maintenance and technical assistance at customer sites on power transmission, distribution and generation equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing of power generation and distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults promptly.
  • Collaborate with engineering to design and implement power system upgrades.
  • Monitor power system performance and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced technicians.
  • Travel offshore as required.

What You’ll Do:

As a Power Systems Technician, you will provide, at utility, industrial and institutional customer sites, electrical maintenance, and technical assistance in the areas of installation, startup, maintenance, repair, training and modification on power transmission, distribution and generation equipment and systems.

You will:

  • Ability to work with a wide range of clients in a multitude of industry sectors, this is a daily customer facing position, professionalism is required;
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing of power generation and distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues, including electrical and mechanical faults, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to assist in the design and implementation of power system upgrades and expansions.
  • Monitor and analyze power system performance to identify potential problems and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations while working on power systems.
  • Mentoring, training, and coaching less experienced technicians as the situations arise;
  • Utmost respect and compliance for safety protocols at all times
What We're Looking For:

We’re excited to meet candidates who have:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with a minimum of five (5) years of field experience, preferably in a customer facing environment
  • Proven experience as a Power Systems Technician or similar role, with a strong understanding of electrical principles and power distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of power system protection and control devices.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, equipment, and software for troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with clients, colleagues, and vendors effectively.
  • Be able to write and produce technical reports such as Commissioning & Start-up and Maintenance & Repairs Testing Summary as a minimum. Experience with Power System, ArcFlash, and Coordination studies would be a definite asset;
  • Experience with a hands-on mechanical background, power transformers, and general project management.
  • Willing to work offshore as required; existing offshore training/certifications are an asset.
  • Comfortable with regular travel to support project and site work (best suited to someone who enjoys being on the move).
  • Contributes effectively within a larger project team, while also working independently on day-to-day tasks.

You will work flexible hours and have effective time management and effective record keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple project schedules. You will have effective communication skills, with an attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a positive team attitude. Travel is required for this position, and the successful candidate must hold a valid driver’s license.
